Fan speed..

It seems that 2 of the fans in my system are running slower then they ought to..

My sycthe s-flex 1600 rpm fan is running at max 1400.. and my other sycthe fan rated at 1200 is running at max 900rpm (even under load)

The 1600rpm fan is my cpu fan hooked up to a 4pin power cable and then there is a single link to the motherboard... and the other fan is plug into a case fan connection on the motherboard.
(my motherboard is a bad axe 2)

I was looking at the bios and the only options for fan control seems to be slow or off...
Any ideas?

CMcguire:

Noticed the same thing with my Scythe S-Flex SFF21E , which was rated at 1200 RPM. I had it
attached to a Molex connector, but the BIOS said it was runnling slower like yours. IMHO, it
was super quiet but I couldn't feel the air that it was suppose to be pushing.

Bought a couple of Scythe S-Flex SFF21F, which are rated at 1600 RPM, and they too are running
a little slow. They are audible, not quiet but not loud either.

Could it not just be an inaccuracy in the rpm reporting sensor?

Check the voltage at the fan if you have a multimeter, those ratings are @12V so maybe you have less than that.

I use EVEREST to monitor fans and it seems pretty accurate, my fans and heatsink fan runs at what they are supposed to.

If the fans have been running for some time, clean them. Dust bunnies will make fans slow down over time. Image Image Image
