Casefan, which one to buy?

Post by Jejking »

Goodmorning guys! :D

I am building my own rig and I really adore a good airflow. So I am looking for a couple of nice 120MM casefans. Budget: <€10 per fan.

These are the requirements in order of importance:
1) Airflow, the more CFM, the better 8)
2) Price, I am a student so I can't afford much. Bang for the buck is the keyword here!
3) Noise, the less the better of course, and a regulator (PWM) is always welcome.

I came down to:
- the Scythe Kama PWM Case Fan 120 Mm, about 56 CFM @ 21dB, 10 euro.
- Arctic Cooling Arctic Fan 12 PWM, 56CFM @ a little more dB, 6 euro. <=

But I am sure there is MUCH MORE to explore :snakeman:

If you can find Yate Loons where you are they are dead quiet and push good amount of air (33dBa, 70.5CFM)

The Vantec Stealth series has a lifetime warranty, double ball bearing and are all under 28dBa up to a max speed of 2600rpm.

I'm running the SF12025L in my case purchased from FrozenCPU.com. This is a 120x120x25 fan running on a mere 0.08A pushing a max of 53CFM. There are a few good sizes to choose from too; 60x60x25, 80x80x25, 29x92x25 and 120x120x25. http://www.vantecusa.com/product-cooling.html

If you want more flow, but not all the noise, then I would recommend the Vantec Thermoflow series :) over the Tornado series :? .

These fans can be purchased via Newegg, Directron, ZZF (zipzoomfly), Sidewinders, Tigerdirect, etc. If you live else where, then try this link ... http://www.vantecusa.com/wheretobuy.html

I'll have to second the Yates for best bang for your buck, they are also one of the largest OEM fan makers out there and supply fans to all kinds of different vendors..........

I've never used the Yates, but I do have a few Vantec Stealth's that are cheap, quiet and push lots of air.

If you really care for the CFM, then go for the Vantec Torando! :)

BUT...and this is a BIG BUT!!! BEWARE of the NOISE that this fan is making!!!

I had severe air-flow problems in my case, so I decided to use the Vantec Tornado 92mm in my side-door to push some air into the case.

I was AMAZED by the amount of air that this fan can push!!! BUT...the NOISE is just unbearable...UNLESS...you'll mod the power cable so the fan will run @7V (instead of 12V) or even better, @5V.

I'm currently running my Vantec Torando @5V and it is running smoothly and pretty quiet and it still cools down my Case pretty good.

So...if you don't care about getting deaf, you can run it @12V, but if you want to stay sane, keep it @5V or @7V and in these voltages, I can FULLY RECOMMEND it!

Good luck with your purchase!!! :)
