Mod Idea for a Rosewill Z3.

Post by Resnik »

First off, The Rosewill Z3 comes shrouded in a plastic case.. Which is terrible for heat disipation in my opinion..
Personally i took the shroud off and mounted the 120mm fan provided with the Heatsink directly to the fins.

I got this idea the other night, but im not really sure how well it would work.
I want to test out mounting an Aluminum 120mm fan to the Rosewill Z3, considering the fact that Aluminum conducts heat better than Plastic :)
Im just curious to see the results. However, im quite sure that there will only be a 1 or 2 degree drop in temps..
I guess the question is, when is surface area to much??

Honestly i want to mount 2 120mm Aluminum fans both blowing to an exhaust fan, I'll test this out when i get my Antec 900.

Well trying to distributing heat between the heatsink and the fan (to make the CPU cooler) isn't going to be very effective at all, I'd be surprised if you saw any change in temp. However if you could put up with the increase in noise, having a second fan the other side of the cooler would help more with the temps (push -> pull set-up).

I also would guess the plastic shroud is on there so that it forces air all the way across the heatsink rather than it escaping out the sides. But it might give you better temps without it, not so sure on that front.

Yeah, Honestly i didnt think it would be effective.. *snicker*
Aluminum fans looks better coupled with the Rosewill Z3, instead of opaque plastic ones, in my opinion..
Since this CPU Heatsink "mod" I had in mind will be in the Antec 900 case. I figured the shroud being removed would allow that beast of a 200mm fan at the top better Access to the heatsink fins themselves instead of it sucking most of the air around the HS, instead of through it.

I'll probably have the System completed whenever i get my Income Taxes back, guess only time can tell..
And Btw, That is a very Clean H20 Antec P180.

Why thank you ^_^

It's funny, because I think it is verging on messy.

Hmm, maybe I should update the pics as I've changed my RAM to some reapers (2GB now running at 3-4-4-11@[email protected]) and changed the PSU to a 610W PC Power and Cooling silencer.
