Q6600 stock cooler dimensions

Lots of you guys have the Q6600 so I'm hoping some of you bought the retail box version instead of the OEM...

Anyone know what the dimensions of this cooler are, particularly the height? Was looking for a cheapish CPU cooler to replace the one that came with a Celeron 430. Someone suggested the $15 Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 as opposed to the $15 Q6600 stock HSF (Q6600 Retail $255 - Q6600 OEM $240 = $15). Would like to know how the height compares with the Q6600's stock HSF. I'm assuming Intel's stock HSFs were designed to fit in almost all cases, even small form factor ones. If the Alpine 7 is around the same height, then it seems like a low-noise alternative which would be nice as the PC is used inside the bedroom. I can live with/sleep through the noise, it would just be nicer if I didn't have to.

Case dimensions:
12.75" x 3.9" x 15.75"

Thanks!

Stock cooler is 2.5" tall from the bottom the push pin bars (part that sets on top of the mobo) to top of fan.

is it a universal C2D heatsink? gotta wonder about these things
maybe a beefier HSF for the quads versus duals? i'd doubt it but thats part of why i ask

Thanks for the info, bubba. :supz:

Sorry, didn't really explain myself in the previous post. I will be buying a Q6600 and Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro for my encoding rig. I also need a CPU cooler for a Celeron 430 low power internet surfer since the cooler that came with it isn't very effective (45-50C idle).

I was originally going to buy the OEM version of Q6600 but then, I thought I could just buy the retail version ($15 more than OEM) and use the Q6600's stock HSF for the Celeron.

Someone recommended the Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 Pro as a quieter alternative. I'm trying to find the dimensions of the Q6600 to compare with that of the Alpine because they seemed to be the same height from individual pictures I saw. Apparently not. The Alpine is ~3.6" (from the specs) and it's likely I won't be able to close my case if I use one.

Ya, its universal. Intel sends the same HSF with the quad as they do with the C2D chips. 2.5" is correct.
