looking for a 120mm fan that will be nice and quiet yet move a enough air to keep this case:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6811119088 nice and cool
i've pieced together everything else i need for my family's new pc, but i need a good fan that will be as quiet as possible and yet move enough air to do the job well.
sorry, fans are not my strong point
quick edit: has to be on newegg too, thanks

Those sythe slipstream fans are nice and quiet and move a lot of air

I agree, the
Scythe is a nice choice, though you can get better fans for a lot cheaper than at NewEgg...
Also, the sleeve bearing is the lowest quality you can get, while the hydrowave is the highest...doesn't necessarily make one fan quieter than the other (turbulence and blade shape have a lot to do with that) but something to keep in mind.

ive always used scythe because ive know them to be true to thier decible ratings and move a good bit of air. i also like the fact that they come in may different rpm's, and that they last forever. but if you want something else, its up to you

I have this case. Its very nice you will be very happy with it.
The Scythe fan is nice but its almost 40dBA that will be loud on the front of the case, look a some more quite fans. like this one from thermaltake its 60cfm, but only 16dBA

and i could control either fan's RPMs through BIOS correct?
*edit*
as long as shipping isnt an arm and a leg, i wouldn't mind going through another etailer for a better fan. these things are going to have to be as quiet as possible and move as much air as possible for the longest TIME possible so if you have better suggestions i'd love to hear them.
(orignally wanted it through newegg simply so the fans would arrive with the other components. then i realized it doesn't really matter)

Front intake:
http://www.xoxide.com/noctua-nf-s12-fan.html or
http://www.xoxide.com/xoxide-120mm-silent-fan.html
rear exhaust: pair of
http://www.xoxide.com/panaflo-80-silentfan.html
with the CFM ratings of these fans you would change out the air in the case at least twice a minute, if not more.

Well for the longest rated garuntee on a fan I have seen, are the Noctua series of fans.
I've kitted my case out with the NF-P12's. They are dead quiet, with mild ambient noise I can barely hear the fans. Set them to 6v and I can't hear them with even low ambient noise.
The only downside is the price. But with a 6 year guarantee on the fans and a rated MTBF of over 17 years 24/7 use, they are sure to last a long time.

if youve got the money look into those nocturna fans. you can deal with the hidious colur because that case doesnt have a side window
@ Bubba, those scythe fans come in many different rpm's, i think they go in incriments of 400 rpm, that just happens to be the loudest one
yah sorry for the double post about those nocturnas but dan just beat me to it

Think of it as re-enforcing a good point

alright! thanks guys! if you were wondering what these new fans will be cooling...
- Centurion case
- C2D E6550 @ 2.33Ghz (stock cooling since we don't need anything nicer for it)
- GIGABYTE GA-73VM-S2 motherboard (already have)
- 1 x 1Gb SuperTalent DDR2 667 (already have it, will upgrade to 2 x 1Gb in near future)
- FSP 400W PSU (already have) :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817104952
- WD 320Gb SATA 3.0 HDD
- 2 IDE dvd/cd roms (already have)
counting out everything we already own, this is going to be about $285 + shipping from Newegg and since my dad will most likely choose the Yate Loon and the Panaflow, $13.98 + shipping through xoxide.com
not bad huh? :D

nope not bad at all. i think you should just spend 25 dollars and get another 2gbs of ram of the egg now, cause the DDR2 prices are slowly starting to correct themselves

Might want to consider an aftermarket cooler for the CPU, if it gets warm in your house the stock cooler can start to sound like a hair dryer at full speed. Its not a must have, try the stock cooler and see where the sound level is.

I have a gigabyte board and fan controls in the bios are severely limited, so if its anything like mine, don't count on it helping a lot.

hm well as long as long as the dBA levels are as quiet as they're rated to be, then that shouldn't be an issue. the pc is going to be in the TV room anyhow. as long as they aren't noticeable when the TV is off then we'll be fine.

i'll have plenty of time to find out if it gets to be noisy... i havent ever had a case this small so i'm not sure what coolers will be good. obviously not my Thermalright Ultra 120X
maybe a Zalman 9500 or 9700?

The Zalman 9700 fits just fine, don't go any taller though.
