4pin 12V PSU cable length

Post by whitehifi »

I am curious to know if anyone else has encountered a problem with the 4pin 12V CPU cable not being long enough to reach the plug on the motherboard.
My setup is as follows:

Antec P182 case, power supply mounted in bottom
OCZ 600W PSU
Asus P5N-E SLI mobo
Intel Q6600 CPU
Western Digital Raptor 75Gb SATA
Wester Digital 250Gb SATA
eVga 9600GT PCI-express GPU
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum

Now my query is, where the PSU is located and the 4pin 12V plug is located it just reaches with tightly wrapped under the extruding part of my video card, and through the Northbridge heatsink, but I would like to have some slack with the cable. Is there a way to extend the 4pin 12V cable or would my options be to, a) buy a different PSU, b) a different case, c) buy a different motherboard with the 4 pin plug located on the RAM side of the CPU socket?
If a different psu is needed, what is recommended?

Thanks for any insight,
Craig

Yup like Ken said a 4 pin extension is what you need.

I don't think that PSU manufacturers have taken the bottom-mounting PSU cases into consideration, because I had to buy one of those extenders to connect my motherboard inside my Antec Twelve Hundred case. :)

I'm enjoying it very much. I've always been very anal about the cable management within my case and my previous Antec 900 was not conducive to an organized layout. The Twelve hundred, as you very appropriately dubbed it, is indeed a behemoth. The space behind the motherboard tray is great for routing the mess of cables, freeing up the main corridor so the 7 120mm fans and 1 200mm fan can create their mini-vortex of airflow.

Huge. Heavy. I love it. :)
