Aerocool AeroRacer Pro Case - 40CM Fan Isn't Balanced

Post by Apoptosis »

Shane is working on reviewing the Aerocool AeroRacer Pro case for the site and sent me this video of our review sample... Seems the fan isn't balanced and I laughed my ass off when watching this. Not sure why, but I find this funny. Not funny in the sense that this is a $99.99 case over at Newegg and TigerDirect, but funny in the sense that it shouldn't be doing this right out of the box.

Here is the YouTube video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNX-aBNra4M

The video was still processing when I posted this, so it might take a few minutes for it to be available.

That thing is hideous. Why not just bolt a boxfan to your PC. It's basically what that looks like.

How long have we had the youtube embed enabled?

That would get old incredibly quick >_<

I wonder if they all do this or it's just rough handling during shipping that messes them up.

DOH!!

Next they will have to have bolt legs on it to shoot bolts into your floor to hold the computer down so it doesnt fly away.

Mike

I guess quality control cant catch everything, but you would think review samples would get the once over just to be sure :/

Oddly enough this was the first case in the last 3 or 4 that had NO damage what so ever to the shipping box.

The fan does move a stupid amount of air though... if you can handle the random clicks while in used, and the nasty start up and shut down rattle.

They seriously said "This is done, pack them up and ship them out."? I hope on the side of the box it says "Hope you don't mind the terrible noise it makes."

other than the clicks, how loud is the actuall hum of the fan? anything with blades that big and such a small rotor is going to be unbalanced

After taking it apart we found the fan blade assembly was not pressed onto the fan hub straight. In talking with AreoCool it was first they had heard of the issue and is sending out a new fan. Hopefully this was a fluke as some of the other sites that have reviewed the case have not mentioned this at all, and I can't find anything of someone complaining about it either.

In between the clicks (for the for we have now) it is quieter than you would think. With a fan assembly that is balanced I would think it would be quieter yet.

I remember back wen they first started making super fast CDROMS, like 30x and above, that certian CD's would do the same thing due to uneven dye on the lables causing them to wobble at speed. That would get annoying in a hurry.

I have no idea who they're marketing that case to. Anyone who's a modder won't really care for the box fan look of the case. At least none I know off. That Tagen Aplus that Shane reviewed a while back was about as far as I'd be willing to take the "huge fan" thing. At least that case had some kinda style to it. This thing, and I can't say it enough, looks like a box fan with those cheezy white fan blades.
