Don't Use a Cooler Master V10 CPU Cooler on < an Intel Q6600

I just got an e-mail from Cooler Master today about the Cooler Master V10 cooler and I thought that our community should be able to read it first hand. To make things simple you shouldn't buy the Cooler Master V10 if you have a processor under an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 as it doesn't get hot enough to enable the TEC cooler... Very interesting.

Here is a little something to know about the V10

Don’t test with anything under Q6600. The reason is with the TEC... the chip isn’t hot enough to trigger it... so it will only give a 2-5 degree difference then another air cooler.

For example if you test with a E8400, the difference between a competitor cooler will be very little.
If you test with a QX9770 or Core I7 945 you will get a huge difference because the V10 has more heat to dissipate and the TEC will turn on.

It’s like a turbo car, you can drive a minivan and a STI all day at 50mph, but when you get to the highway or dragstrip the STI is faster because the “turbo” will turn on.

The TEC will not turn on unless the full heat potential is there. With a Phenom X4, or Core QX, or Core i7, you will have a more dramatic and proper effect since they are high heat. Higher the heat total... the more lead V10 will pull away from everything else and the hybrid mode will only work well with a cpu over Q6600 because the chip has to be very hot.

Remember the V10 can cool up to 300W but it will cool best only with Q6600 and above.

Some say that for water cooling and extreme series CPUs too, but if you got the coin, more power to you.

Couldn't they set it so that the TEC is on regardless of the load? Why not let the cooler be at its full potential 100% of the time. Certainly that would score with the enthusiasts

Condensation problems if the board gets too cold, and if it's a beefy TEC and really low power CPU, you could even get ice build up.

You could always relocatedthe thermal senor to a hot spot elsewhere so the TEC would kick in ;)

The V10 uses a 70W and is controlled via a thermal sensor control box.

Yeah, no kidding -- like someone would actually use this beast with anything lower than a Q6600.
