A cardboard case for greener computer building

I was looking at the
Greener Gadgets 2009 website and found a interesting cardboard computer case for greener computer building... Take a look at this:

Recompute is a new way of thinking about computers that layers sustainable ideas throughout its lifecycle to make an overall sustainable product that can be easily replicated. Recompute address sustainability along three main points during its life.
Manufacturing: Rather than making a large tower constructed from numerous materials (ABS plastic, aluminum, steel, etc.), hundreds of manufacturing processes, and dozens of individual components, the Recompute case is made of corrugated cardboard (recyclable and renewable). There are four low-impact manufacturing processes to assemble Recompute: Die cutting, gluing (with non-toxic white glue), printing and electronic assembly. Recompute uses only three major electronic components: A motherboard with processor & memory, power supply, and a hard drive.
Use: Recompute is designed to allow the user to take advantage of existing hardware. For example; use the keyboard from a previous computer. For additional flexibility, external hardware customization is easy via 8 USB ports.
Disposal: Electronic components need to be properly recycled as they contain toxic heavy metals. However, this is often skipped because dismantling of computers is difficult. Recompute can be disassembled without tools, so the electronics and case can be easily recycled individually.
Oh yes, Recompute is a real working computer.

Looks interesting...but would an inexperienced overclocker potentially catch it on fire?

Interesting idea. Reminds me of the cardboard boombox iPod dock I saw a while back. But I prefer my electronics cased in metal, like god intended!

thats crazy...coincidentally i read an article last night on a guy who literally crammed part for a pc into a windows XP box..cd drive and everything..no bulges..worked too..but this just looks cool
..not sure what Fire Marshall Bill would say tho..almost have a recyclable pc here

this is a decent idea but you wouldnt have the added saftey of your case being a faraday cage...

My son once made a computer case out of a cardboard box and duct tape. It lasted a few weeks until it annoyed him ever so much to get a real case.

I don't think cardboard would be sturdy enough to hold my motherboard up with the weight of a TRUE 120 on it. Not to mention the risk of fire... 4870s run pretty hot...

Unless your case temp is kicking over 400 deg I think you'll be just fine. Otherwise pizzas would cause thier boxes to burst into flames.

it's definately one of the better looking cardboard box cases. Isn't cardboard an insulator? Seems like the inside of your "case" would be an oven.
