Why is my 6800NU so hot?

Post by Sovereign »

I have this cooler reviewed at ClubOC that initially dropped my card's idle temps from 45-47C to 37-40C. However, of late my idle temps are back up even with no OCing. (the card was OCed until the temps started going nuts.) The only thing I did that I know of was installe new ForceWare...

If the room/case temp has gone up the video cooler will not do all that good due to it's passive nature. Those little fans don't do all that much. You also need to check to see if you have any little things blocking (dust build up) the air flow on the inside and outside of the cooler. Air flow is so important with these types of coolers.

If you're not overclocking and are still under warranty, I wouldn't worry about video card temps too much as long as you're under 80 degrees or so under load.

A thread at the Driverheaven forums a while ago had information from ATI engineers about how damage shouldn't start occurring until over about 100 degrees.
