I've never used one, but the general opinion on most forums is that its a crap PSU that only got some notoriety because it was the first (or one of the first) modular power supplies

most people think they are decent only for light duty and looks. They have very bad power regulation and dont last very long. I suggest staying away.

I've got one in my first, now back-up A64 system and it works just fine and the rals are solid as a rock and right at spec and also keep my system more stable than the Antec 480 that it replaced. Some people reported problems with them, but mine has been just fine and my system runs overclocked most all the time. As with any computer part, you can always get a bad or great part.
Here's a pic of it in my review sample Cooler Master Centurion case.

And in my old Lian-Li case.

And here it is pushing my old water cooling system.

I've had it from when they first came out, I will keep using it until it dies, and it doesn't look like that day will come anytime soon...................... :finga:

You might want to try one of these from Hiper. I got one of them in Friday for review. They seem to be very good so far, it replaced my burned out Thermaltake TWV500 in my monster rig. The PSU has been getting super reviews over in Europe and they just started marketing them here in the US.

Frozen CPU is the only plase I've seen them so far, but I'm sure there are more online shops that have them, I just haven't looked.

129.99 , Pretty high dollar.

You could give the Ultra a try, I'm extremely happy with mine, but it was one of the first batch out, they may have changed them sence.

Aspire is not know for getting the best PSU's either. If your looking at the $60 range then Fortron, Sparkel, Enermax, Thermaltake, and Antec are all decent options.

The PSU looks amazing. On most forums I visit theres alot of negative reviews about them, including Antec powersupplies. Everyone seems crazy about enermax and ocz though.

I just burned out a new Thermaltake TWV500 last week and a Antec a few months ago. so it's luck of the draw as far as I see it. You have to take the good with the bad..................... 8)

do rosewill or logisys make good power supplies?

apparently, rosewill, for being a small no-name company, consistently puts out quality crap... that's the only reason why i'm asking

what do you all think about the ocz modstream?

Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2005 9:25 pm
by infinitevalence
The OCZ modstream is ok, its about the best modular PSU that i know of, its not as good as the OCZ powerstream but its still good enough.

powerstream's pretty damn expensive.... and i like modular because i dont like extra wires and **** all over inside of my case.

I'm loving the OCZ PSU's and that is ALL i run on the test bench and on my personal systems. Antec did me just fine from 2001 to 2004, but when the need came for 600+ Watt PSU's Antec didn't impress me after the True Control 550 came out.

I had time to install the Hiper PSU today, so my main rig is up and running again................. :) I did a couple of quick reading with a multimeter at idle and load, OC'd just a little and the rials didn't more, rock stable....................... 8)

Now just to see how long this one lasts.................. :snakeman:
