Post by KeysTattoo »

iam having high temps on
asus p4p800 e deluxe
3.01 cpu
ati 9600 pro aiw
stock cpu fan
latest bios'updates etc.
win xp sp2

playing games or converting avi to dvd spikes my temps to the 141-145 F range. After it passes 150 it reboots either the program running or the whole system.

Running 60C on an Intel Prescott under full load is pretty normal. Having your system hit 65C (150F) and reboot isn't typical, but can happen... Usually 70C and higher the Intel P4 processors start to freak out. Since Intel doesn't make a 3.01 CPU I'm guessing you are running an Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz (Prescott).

Sounds like you need to check and make sure all the case fans are working and are not blocked so clean cool air can easily get in. Other than that I strongly suggest saving up some money and purchasing a high quality heatsink/fan for your system.

Better Cooling Idea:
Zalman CNPS7700-CU: $42 shipped

A fan like this will work on your socket 478 board and if you ever want to upgrade to a socket 775 board it will still work, so it would last for more than one platform.
