Trade WC Blk or GPU..........

Well it looks like I've been bit by the Rev1 vs Rev2 part of getting a water block for my GPU.......

Have a BFGRGTX2851024OCBE that came as a replacement for an RMA'ed watercooled 280 (was tired of waiting for "replacement" parts). Then on the fly and a whim "won" an EK-FC285 GTX - Nickel WaterBlock for GTX 285. IT was then realized that it was a rev1 because of the black tail that goes over the VRs.

In looking at the pictures of the underside there doesn't apear to be a way to "make it work"

Suggestions??

1. Have a BFG GTX 285 GPU Rev2
2. Have an EK water block for a GTX 285 Rev1
3. Has anyone worked with either to know if I can make them work together with some effort or if not
4. Guess I need to figure out which one to "trade" to find matching parts.

so the pcb's screw holes changed between revisions? i figured every GTX 200 had the same mounts

It isn't the mounting holes.......and something one needs to watch for regardless of who makes the water block. This applies to all the GTX series GPUs, the difference is the location of some components. That being a nvidia "reference" card vs fabricator's layout.

In this case with the GTX 285 look at "pad" locations on first a rev1 card and then a rev2.

Did you check to see which revision your GTX 285 is? The revision number should be printed on the back of the video card just below the nVidia logo. It should be P891 or P892.

This should also help:

I had gone looking for that comparison and for whatever reason couldn't find it!! However I haven't removed the cooler on the BFG but did on my XFX for fitting the Zalman VF3000N and this is what it looks like......

So it appears in worst case situation the cooler should fit that!! The BFg is currently in Oz1a for test so have to guess by looking at the back....it appears to be a rev2 because of the rear cooler bolt locations.

Looking at the photo of your GTX 285 that you posted, and the image of the two PCB designs posted by werty316:

Your GTX 285 seems to be the reference design one, or rev.1.

Yep so the EK should fit!! Also there is a back view floating around that make for an initial easy quess as the two mounting screws at the power connector end are arranged differently. If the "bottom" mounting screw is very close to the bottom edge it more than likely is rev1.

So it looks like a planned SLI setup will not have my two matched XFXs as I'll need to use one of them in the water cooled setup.

How wonkie would it be to SLI the standard 285 with a factory overclock one?

Unless I'm mistaken the factory overclocked card would downclock to the other card.
