so i have the H50 as we all know by now, and Gomeler got this idea in my head: dunk the rad into a styrofoam cooler filled with ice water  so i was wondering what the thermal range is on the coolant as, well, bad things happen when i do things like this, just want to make sure the coolant/parts are fine operating around ice temps

Keep the water above freezing (32) and it should be fine. I think the coolant moves to quickly to form condensation around the socket. If you want more efficiency bypass the cold water and just use a lot of it. More water then better the temps are, that's why triple rads are better than single or double.
