GAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! I CAN'T DECIDE!

Post by shruakin »

can someone PLEASE help me decide what computer case to get? I am taking an equal interest currently in about 120 different cases! I don't care how much the case costs as long as it costs less than 650$ but it MUST have kick ass features and it has to be at least a mid size tower or larger! I prefer to have some sort of temperature monitoring and if possible temperature control hardware installed into the case. can someone PLEASE suggest an awesome computer case for me? I JUST CAN'T DECIDE WHAT TO TAKE! and this is the first computer that I am building that I am buying entirely new hardware for every component, so I am new to buying a psu for a future system and buying a case for holding a future system. PLEASE HELP ME! I just cant decide what to take! I got a general idea what the mobo, cpu, graphics cards, hard drives, audio cards, wireless cards, optical drives, media drives, mouse, keyboard, game controllers, monitors, speakers, fans, and ram will be, but I have no clue for the chassis or the psu. please help me! any suggestions for other parts are also welcome because at the moment nothing is decided with certainty and I want to be sure i get the mobo that best suits my needs.

silver stones tj07-bw, tj10-bw, rv-1, rv02, lian li pc-v2120x, also the pc-v2120b, as for mobo what you looking on getting into? for i7 rigs, Asus or MSI are my favorite brands to use. I like the featurs that Asus offers andMSI has some of the best best layouts for motherboards.

Need more details!!

I love my Corsair Obsidian 800D chassis, but you'd need to add the temp monitoring stuff you want.

As for mobo's... ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI are the top enthusiast choices!

I'm not sure if any cases have a built-in temperature monitor; you usually have to buy an aftermakret one. Most computer cases don't go over $300, but there are some...like the Thermaltake Level 10 with a heavy price of $800..
Anyways!

The Cooler Master Storm Sniper has a chassis fan control feature. Costs around $160.

Antec Dark-Fleet 85 ATX full-tower. Great airflow case. It has built-in fan speed control for ALL 7 the fans, but again, no temperature monitor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

Antec Lanboy Air ATX Full tower. This case really stnads out from the rest; you can basically build your own case! Moveable panels. Again you can control all the fans' speed individually. (Many of Antec's cases have this feature).

Thermaltake Element G ATX Mid-Tower Case. Just like the Storm scout, you can adjust the fan speed with one knob.

Thermaltake Element V ATX Full-tower. Fan speed & fan colour control. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

You can always just buy a case without and fan control, and ADD your own control+monitor like these:

For the motherboard, I'd suggst that you go with one by ASUS, Gigabyte, or MSi. Recently, AsRock seems to be been doing a good job. If you are thinking of running a setup with 2 or more graphics cards, then get a motherboard with two or more PCI-E X16 slots (getting a board that provides X16 or X8 through the PCI-E slots are recommended, as X4 doesn't provide enought bandwidth for more powerful cards.)

Most ATX full-towers and ATX mid-towers will fit ATX sized motherboards (with 2 PCI-Ex16 slots or more), so you don't need to worry. Of course, if you get a motherboard that has like 6+ PCI-E X16 slots, they become E-ATX or LG-ATX and you need a specific case that supports them.

As far as power supply...for a Crossfire or SLI set up, a 650W or 750W a reliable, stable, quality brand like Antec, Corsair, XFX, Seasonic, SilverStone, or OCZ is ideal. For a single card setup, a 500W-550W should be plenty. Running three cards or more will require a a better power supply.

For RAM, DDR3 1333MHz or 1600MHz is suitable. There isn't a lot of noticeable performance between the two, but if you plan to do some pretty big overclocking, get 1600 RAM. I don't recommend that you get 1066MHz or slower RAM, as there are noitceable performance differences.
Cooler Master HAF 932 // Phenom II 1090T @ 4.1GHz (not 110% stable) // ASUS Crosshair V Formula 990FX // Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler // Sapphire Dual-X HD 7970 @ 1150/1500 // 8GB (2X4GB) G.Skill RipJaws + 8GB (2X4GB) G.Skill RipJawsX @1600 8-9-8-21-1T // Corsair TX850 // Corsair ForceGT 120GB SSD // Kingston V200+ 120GB SSD // WD Caviar Black 1TB // LiteON DVD-RW // Windows 7 Ult. 64-bit

Bubba did a great review on the CM Sniper case that you can find right here

http://legitreviews.com/article/1131/1/

This case is a monster, you definitely won't have any cooling issues with its massive fans and mesh sides. Its a big one though, you won't be lugging it to any LAN parties, lol. I have Antec 1030/1040 SOHO server cases that look average size next to the Sniper. Bubba has provided dimensions in his review if size would be an issue.
I have come to the conclusion that "FaceBook" should be renamed "FacePalm"

the sniper is not I would say huge, or large interior. About normal as most chassis go these days.

A case is a case. It's not what your going to be spending your life looking at.

If your a normal geek, you'll spend your life stare-ing at the monitor, not the case.

And most people, like to have their case out of sight under a desk or something, it decreases clutter. I suggest you grab a normal case at around $50-$80 dollars. A good solid one with good ventilation. I like the ANTEC 300 which has very good ventilation and happens to have what works as a good filtration system for your room. The fans have this mesh in front of them which keeps dirt from getting into your case.

Since your budget for the case alone is $650. This is what you should do: Buy a normal case at $50-$90 and than buy a 1911 at $500 to put on top of the case. This will make your case cool. + You have a conversation starter + you can take it down to the firing range and have some fun + you can shoot that annoying prick who always messes with you.
