Radeon x850PE xt and water cooling?

Post by Lysander »

Hi,

I want to add water cooling into my computer to get the temperatures right down, then maybe start overclocking the system. The way that my fans appear to be working at the moment, is the air gets sucked away from the P4 processor (socket 775 btw) and then down into the graphics card fan, and out the exhaust in the back.

I don't know wether I should add a water cooling kit onto the processor to cool that, and reduce the hot air in the system, or get a water cooling kit that covers both GPU and CPU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Some kits I have seen so far:

Can a GPU kit be affectively attached onto a Radeon x850?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

My PC:
P4 3.6, socket 775
2gig DDR2 RAM
2xRaptor 75gig 10,000rpm raid-0
160gig SATA 7,200rpm
Radeon x850pe xt
450w PSU

Both kits you listed are very good kits, but with the Corsair kit you'll nedd to buy a GPU block etra as it isn't included in the kit. Cooling your X850 XT with water is a great choice and you'll have no problems attaching a water block to your cardAll Radeon cards up to the x800 serise use the ATI 2 hole mounting standard and the cards after that use the 4 hole standard. When looking for a GPU block, just be sure that you pick one that matches your card.

PolarFlo TT block installed via the typical 2 hole method;

Thanks for the prompt reply. For cooling the GPU, would i only need the one block?

Sorry for my ignorance, i thought there was a a couple of parts on the graphics card that needed cooling.

I need to add some sort of thermometers on the pc with a front bay drive for the readings, any suggestions for anything like this?

For your X850Xt all you really need is a block for the GPU and some copper heatsinks for the ram such as the ones in the pic I posted.
As for keeping track of your case temps, pretty much any of the after market 5.25 bay devices will work just fine. I don't really think any one is better that the other as far a temp readings go, it all depends on what you're looking for for extras. I myself don't use any extra temp monitoring devices, just what comes with the system and video card bios....... :)

Does anyone know any freeware or tools that I can use whilst in windows to monitor my temperature readings from bios?

Also, I have read something briefly on a safer alternative to water for the liquid inside the watercool kits. I wouldn't mind spending the money on that if it meant that a leak wouldn't ruin my rather expensive machine..

What motherboard are you using? (make&model)

you could try motherboard monitor...but it may not support you motherboard...most motherboard makers have their own utility for checking temps/voltages...

you can get motherboard monitor here

There are several different fluids out that are non conductive. Danger Den has 2 different types and PrimoChill also has some. There are a few others out and they all perform pretty well, but I've never used any of them myself, I never seen the need. I'll have to dig around for a few links of the different products though, I don't have them on my fav list.
