PSU alternative usage?

Post by camaroguy1998 »

I'm wondering if anyone here has used a computer PSU to power anything other than a puter?
Specifically a car stereo!

Yeah I have an idea!
Thinking about a self contained, semi portable, music box for my patio!

or just buy a google home or alexa device :)

or buy a cheap receiver (I know, I know, you have the PSU and car radio already so no money needed)

Come to think of it I have a radio that I won that goes in a boat....I dont have a boat (poor people problems lol) so maybe something like this would work to actually use it.

Thanx for the links!

What kind of boat radio do you have??? CD? HD Radio? I might be interested???

I can feel my Idea Bubble about to burst...One thing I did not think about till now....one of those links pointed out a big problem(maybe annoyance?)!
How to maintain saved stations when the PSU is powered down! ](*,) :toimonster:

A big part of this was the idea of design and build! I enjoy doing things like this!
But if it sucks to use, I dont know..... :?

If you do electronics, can convert an old PSU to be a bench power supply.

That is what I have.

For the station memory, couldnt you hook up a battery of some sort to keep power flowing through like in a car? Maybe use a riding mower battery or something small like that? Maybe a small ups....

I appreciate you digging it out!
I'm really hoping for something that has HD built in!
I am going to keep it in mind, I really dont want to spend a lot of money on this project!
If I have to give up on HD I may consider that!
If you're willing to part with it!?!

Yea it is nothing special. nicest thing is that it is a little weather resistant....cant say waterproof cause that is not the case, although for a boat radio you would think.... Been sitting in the box since I won it except when I took the speakers out to test in our car to make sure every single speaker blew at the same time, and they did...
