New Tool!

Recently one of the wife's puters died!
I wasn't sure but figured it was the Mobo(Crosshair)
I turn it on and it immediately turns off! Maybe 1 sec!
I've dealt with a few PSU failures and all have been, it either works or it does not!
But after a bit of research, I read several posts that said it could still be the PSU!
So rather than do a pin short to see if it runs or not, I bought a PSU Tester!
Simple unit sold under a few different names but they all look the same!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J9LRC6T?ps ... ct_details

It came packaged in a simple black plastic ziplock bag, no instructions-manual...Nothing!
The LCD screen was scuffed and a few nicks in the plastic body. Guess I got what I paid for($9.99 Free shipping - Amazon)
Doubt it is New!
But anyway, I googled and found a video that shows how to use it!
Plugged it in and it shows the PSU to function as it is supposed too!
So, that backs up my Dead Mobo theory!
A little disappointed, the Mobo is an ASUS CrossHair. The 1st ASUS Mobo to die on me!
With that said, it is old and was abused in its early days! 12 maybe 13 yrs old, it was my gaming rig back in the day!
Eventually it became a F@H rig using both the CPU(965BE) and GPU(OCZ 8800GTX)

Ok back to the PSU Tester.
Even though its probably not new, it seems to work and gives very good info.
Shows the 3.3V, 5V and 12V values and even shows if both 12V+ and 12V- are working!

Feel like I may have gotten screwed(a little) but, if its working guess I can't complain too much!
I wish I had bought one of these a few years ago!

I got one years ago and it has come in handy quite a bit! Mine looks almost exactly like yours, except no lcd. I wish it had a digital readout but the lights light up and tell me at least some of what I need :)

Side Note: Back in the day I was on an OCZ kick.
I bought some memory and it worked very well!
So, I stuck with the brand and bought several OCZ PSUs for friends and personal builds, and bought an OCZ 8800GTX!

The memory is still in a puter I built and running. :)

PSU luck wasn't so good, about half have failed! :(
Weird thing on that was the 3 or 4 that failed all did within a month or so of each other! The one in my wife's puter seems to be ok!
2 others were built for people no longer in my life, so I have no idea what happened to them.

Now for the 8800GTX, it came with a Lifetime Warranty, that paid off!
After a couple years of gaming and then F@H it died.
I contacted OCZ and they were pretty decent but, by then they were not making video cards anymore!
The guy explained they will stand by the warranty but could not guaranty an OCZ replacement and I agreed to that without question!
But, a week or so after sending my card in, I received a Brand New OCZ 8800GTX!
Yes its in the puter that just died!
Pretty sure I am going to clean it up and put it to use, just not sure where yet!

Just looked up LRs review and see its been 15yrs! So that puts the dead computer at that same age.

Trips down memory lane :)

I honestly have 2 brand new psu's in my closet right now because of how often PSU's were dying on me. I think they are 550 and 650 watt. Pretty soon will have to use them both in one system because of the video cards wanting their own power station

That's exactly what this has been for me! A trip down memory lane! :)

This all came back to me, when I pulled the HDD out tonight(last night for you guys) to try and retrieve some files for the wife!

EDIT: I just realized all the other OCZ PSUs were either 500W or 600W, the one in my wife's puter is 700W<<< Maybe thats why its still alive???

I still have some ocz nvidia sli certified ddr2 800mhz in my forbidden box next to me. Beefy as all hell them heat spreaders. I remember the 500 and 600watt ocz psu's were not all that great but the 700watt was made by a different manufacturer, so likely that was why IIRC.

That's my thought also!

The original OCZ DDR2 800mhz memory is till there along with 2 sticks of Kingston memory which maxed out the system!

In the back of my mind, is the thought of tracking down a different Mobo to see what happens! Just not sure its worth the time, money or effort!?!

Also in there somewhere(My Mind) is my Patio Radio Project, which the OCZ 700W PSU would make a great start to that project!
