500 vs 450

Okay so I am about to get my new rig now, and I am trying to save $ but I don't want to have to replace parts because of this.. I used the PSU calculator thing and after maxing stuff out and what not I got to like 455W (I was shooting a little high with some of the things I was adding, but nothing special..). Now I can get the Antec Sonata II with a 450W psu from a computer store near me for $110+tax or else online buy the case PSU seperatly (500 watt) for $140 (with shipping). Can/should I skimp and go the 450 or should I really spend the extra $30 for the 500W.
The 500W puts me just above my $700 budget @ 710 total.

depends if you are going to go SLI in the future... Are you?

With one video card, one hard drive, and no watercooling a 400-430W Antec power supply will be fine (notice i said ANTEC). Plus you're not running an FX or XE processor.

As for memory I suggest 2 x 1GB and a name brand... I just ordered in Corsair PC2-6400C5 with a $40 rebate from newegg and I'll let you know how it does... hoping to get 4-4-4-12 out of it with a litte extra voltage.

I guess I will go with the 450 for now. Especially since I found a good deal on it on newegg. The Antec Sonata II is $110 in stores + tax and I found it for $110 w/ shipping incl with a $15 mail in rebate.. we'll see how it works. I can't wait for my comp to get here!

i ran an x1900XT system with a ton of fans 3 HD's and an Opty off the smart power 450w.

Yeah that's what I have ended up going with the antec sonata II with 450W. They were selling it at the store for $110 (w/out tax) and I found it online for $110 (shipping incl) and a $15 rebate

If you're not going for SLI, the case/PSU that you have selected will do just fine ;) Besides, the total wattage isn't really as important as the power output on the 12V rails, especially for SLI. NEVER CHEAP OUT on your PSU!
