Two questions:

1 Anyone know a good way to tell how much voltage my laptop provides to the fan? I want to put a new one in (see next question) but I need to know how much power is available in the little plug.

2 Does anyone know where I could get a custom copper heatsink made? I want to mod the cooling system (see previous question) in an old laptop for fun, but I don't know where to get one. And yes, I know copper is a dollar a pound.

A majority of Laptop cooling fans are only 5VDC and push just less than 0.5Amps. There are a few odd 3.3VDC in some really older notebooks.

The rule of thumb is, if you know what's plugged into the laptop's fan header for power, then don't go too much higher with the amp draw either.

Well, I've decided to keep both fans, so I'll make the new one I put in a usb powered fan, maybe.

I found an online store that does custom aluminum CNC milling, I'll be checking them out later, but it's a step in the right direction! :P
