So is it possible for me to take 2 aspire case fans out of a dead aspire psu that came with a case and won't even run windows stably? That is to use as case fans in my case?

Sure, you can pull them and use in the case. Worst thing that you may have to do is change the connector on the fan, some come with a 2 pin connector, but all you have to do is swap it for a 3 pin from a old fan........;)

sweet, I had this extra psu that we had in a computer for a while and it is the problem we found after a lot of part swaping so it's not good for any cpu I own so i figured I could make use of the two fans sitting inside. Thanks for the info.

I gutted a PSU for a fan recently too, had to do an awesome rewire with the two pin connector involving a cut up floppy drive power connector and a fair bit of electrical tape, i was dead proud. (except for the bit when i shorted the then running PC

, but it wasnt broke so

).

'Fraid it was in a mates computer so not really.
I just had to sheath the wire a bit on the floppy connector and fan wires, twist them together, electrical tape them shut, and cut/file the clip lugs off of the floppy connector so that it fit on the fan jumpers on the motherboard.
Ghetto at its best.

So is it just the outside two that I need to get power to the fan on the 3 pin? what is each pin used for? i've got the two fans out of the psu now i'm looking to see the best way to use them. can I just plug the two pin into the 3 pin on the board? anyone got a diagram that can show me how they need to be wired so I can use them on the 3 pin plug or just put them into the back of a molex.

Oh, yeah, you might also be able to do that

The only reason i had to ghetto mod it was so that it was long enough to reach the motherboard header, doh!
Erm, yeah, i think the third pin is for regulating speed/speed readouts or something. Take a chance at which ones you need to get it working

actually just went by the local computer shop and bought a 3-4 pin adapter after seeing they only had wires running to two of the three pins, (side by side so left and middle) so I just plugged the two pin into the three pin on the molex adapters and perfect working fans.
