Forgive me I haven't air cooled in at least a year. Needs to cool a C2D at 3.0Ghz, and be quiet. 120MM fans perfered. And while were at it suggest a fan too.

Zalman CNPS9700 Anyone? I like it it, it's quiet unless you want it load in which case it's not that loud. Cools well. have it on my friends c2d though you'll have to turn off fan speed warnings in the bios since it doesn't have 4 pin fan plug just 3.

ordered a Ninja. Everyone says it works well with just a Yate, and since I have one here in the closet, and this hairdryer, I mean Intel Stock Cooler is driving me up a wall already, it'll be here Friday. The Zalman was a little too expensive, and I only need to hit 3.0GHZ on this to be happy. Thanks Dgood though

no problem I just really like the look, how quiet they are, and yeah, but I wasn't going ot say it was the only one, figured others would chime in with Tuniq tower and scythe ninja etc.

The Ninja is a great cooler, I used it to passivley cool a opteron 170 based system and the temps never go higher than 38c and thats without any kind of cooling fan attached to it!

I really like my Tuniq Tower. Of course it's hard to judge how loud it is when you have it running inside an Antec Nine Hundred. ;)

Along with the Scythe Ninja and Tuniq Tower 120, I would also recommend the Enzotech Ultra-X and Scythe Infinity.
Here is a chart from Firinqsquad:

I recommend the Scythe Infinity as you can put whatever fan you want on it and it supports the use of two fans.

Actually up to 4, but I'm not sure how well the air would flow then

lol, man Dicecca, good things happen to people that can wait!

I would have personally gone with the Thermalright Ultra 120 and pair it with a Nesux fan. If you were patient, maybe you could have waited for Thermalright to release the
IFX-14. Now THAT'S a cooler
Don't forget to post some temps/pics whenever you get your cooler!

its in and working right now, I've had it for a week or so. I'm not gonna hit the 3.4 I had under water, but I did hit 2.8 easy on 1.3v. Load is 55C, idle is, well I don't know, I'm never idle, I'm always folding

Because way back when I decided to WC, I did it for the silence. This was the error of the 8x0 and 9x0 series and there weren't any low noise air coolers or even any 120mm fan coolers, the xp-120 wasn't out yet. Now with the Ninja, Tuniq Tower, et al, I can achieve that. Clocks never mattered for me, I'd be happy with the stock 2.13 of the e6400, the 2.8 is just a bonus.

I agree, it's HUGE!

But, it's very quiet over all of the other case fans in my machine.

The unit has been running for a few weeks now with no complaints. I really enjoy the OC it gives over the standard cooler the machine had. The Northwood isn't a really big OC'er CPU, but I do have it at a stable 3.275Ghz above the 3.00Ghz processor rating.

I only revived this thread since it related to my NEW cooler rather than starting a new one.

This thread isn't THAT old either.
