gas prices are going up again... tomorrow, it's supposedly going to get up to at least $3.00/gallon. in some parts like fenton and some other place, the price has already gone up tonight. i strongly advise everyone to hurry out and fill up before the conglomerates rape you in the butt.

If paying $3.00 a gallon for petrol in America seems expensive, please don't come to England and fill up a car! As you'll simply collapse and die of a heart attack because of the price of a gallon in the UK.

Converting dollars to pounds, $3.00 = £1.65. But the US gallon is different in volume to a UK gallon. So the current price of £0.95 a litre, yes I did say litre, would equate to an equivalent of £3.60 a US gallon. But hey thats pounds not dollars, converting into dollars it equates to...... drum roll ....... $6.52 a gallon.

So stop your complaining, I would kill for a £1.65 gallon, so who's getting ? To coin a classic phrase "..you lucky, lucky, bas***ds..". (Name that film in one?)

for those that want to check his math.

1.2 gal (uk) = 1 gal (us)
1 liter = .26 gal (us)

1 dollar = 0.55 GBP

so at .95/liter that rolls out to aprox 6.60 (us) per gal (uk), match volume to volume it 5.50 gal(us) at uk prices.

sucks no matter how you pay for it, makes wish I could aford to live closer to work. spending almost 60 a week in gas. and thats in a car that gets 26 miles to the gal (us).

You can at least begin to understand why diesel cars in the UK are so popular, mine is only a 2.5liter (which is considered a big engine in the UK) turbocharged diesel, and returns 39mpg.

Even with that sort of fuel economy, I'm still paying more than £60.00 a week! I travel over 400 miles to and from work each week, but being a software developer have to take work where ever it presents itself!

If I took a job closer to home I could easily shave £3k off my salary and still be no worse off! (But better as I wouldn't be spending two hours commuting every day.)

my dads chevy superduty truck is diesel and he is getting better millage than I do.

I have done decided that the next car will be a hybrid, my dad will prolly disown me for buying a honda.

well you guys in the UK have more efficient cars than us in the US. But this has got to stop. Gas was 1.80$ my freshman year of college (I'm a junior) not its 2.60$ friggin ridiculous, especially since my stupid 91 camary can only take premium or it knocks like a mother

i payed 2.55 yesterday, im not complaining. i will be upset if it breaks 3.00

Gas in the middle east is like .15 cents a gallon last I heard from my friends over there. There's no one to blame but the US oil companies......and the goverment of coarse.

who cares? it's more than it was before and people dont have the money. sure, the economy is good right now, but people aren't seeing it because it's all corporate. none of the "good economy" is rubbing off on the common american.

True. You also have to take into account what average salaries are. Here, min. wage is something like $5.25/hr. What is it in Great Britain and Canada?

Well, I got a 1989 GMC Suburban with a 5.7L V-8, gas of course. Gas mileage on it so far, considering I mainly drive it around town to get to work, is around 12-15 per gallon, and I have a 35 to 40 gallon tank, so you can imagine what I pay a week, lol. It averages out to about...hmm........$48 a week for gas (yes, $2.39 a gallon is cheap, but I also live in the South, who is just beginning to develop more "jobs" for the common person; personally, I believe that it's all about the oil companies and govt bureaucrats lining their pockets with our hard-earned money. I'm with you on the hybrid Bubba, but remember that the repair costs can be high just due to the technology they use (I am still torn between the Honda Accord Hybrid and the Toyota Prius; might go with the Accord Hybrid due to the fact I've heard that the Toyota hybrids (at least earlier models) had problems with the electrical drive. The only thing I do know is that this crap has to stop, or otherwise we should all rise as one and slay those bas***ds!!

I stand corrected...I couldn't remember the exact amount. I know that $5.15 is the federal min. wage, and some states along the coasts and Ohio have a higher min. wage.

used to own a 81 suburban, I can feel your hurt. I miss that old truck. Had to junk her, electrical probs, she had a good run though 360,xxx miles across three rebuilds and two blocks in her life.


but even if I had her still, I have to sell couldn't aford to drive anywere. my next car will be a hybrid with out a doubt.

I guess the biggest thing I'll miss about this truck when I sell it is the fact that I've been able to smoke those little rice-burners (maybe not off the line, but I can keep it within their front fender, and after they're done winding it out, I stomp it and leave a trail of dust behind them, lol). I can appreciate 245+ HP, and I don't know what kind of HP the Accord hybrid can put out, but it's all for the sake of saving cash and gas.

Just under $5.50 US in my province... bear in mind that income tax is much higher than the US, and most things in this province have 15% sales tax on them.

Yeah, the average American keeps 60% of his/her paycheck -- the rest is spent on taxes (at least, that's what I learned in my econ course)
