Intel demos 80-core Chip

According to
PC World, Intel has created an 80-core superchip that does a teraflop per second at 3.16GHz. No, clocking it at 5GHz doesn't help, efficiency decreases rapidly with more speed. Diminishing marginal returns suck.

Checked this up yesterday and it's simply amazing. There's already a 96 or 94 core chip out there, but it's made for a single purpose while this will be a general purpose chip. Too bad they don't have an architecture for it yet, can't communicate with anything so to speak.

It's not made up of x86 cores......basically it's not a very smart chip...per say. It uses code like the Itanium proc. ie. the compiler has to do all the hard work.
It's just a proof of concept......they will/are learn(ing) from this.
