lol, i was thinking the same thing. I was hesitating about posting, but i don't have much to do today, so I'll give it a shot:

Her partner in my opinion should be an old apprentice, who Ruby attempted to train as a swordsman, but the apprentice (let's call him Quinn) thought of swords as primitive. He decided to practice combat through telekinesis, and he learned manipulate his surroundings as well as himself (he can levitate). He would be useful in areas that would remind one of a Nintendo puzzle, crossing rivers and canyons, distracting enemies, and breaching obstacles such as boulders and doors.

Quinn has also travelled through much of the eastern hemisphere, meeting several shamans along the way, learning their ways and the local lore. Through his travels, he has learned from the shamans to control his emotions and perform at his best physically and mentally under any circumstances, being sure not to let frustration overcome him at any moment.

Hopefully it will be a random drawing, i think I'll have more of a chance then as opposed to ATI picking someone [cough]duplo83[/cough]

Enter RADE, sometimes called Radar by those who have seen him in action, as he knows where every threat is beforehand. Entirely sheathed in a black Exoskeleton with "Ruby" colored lenses where his eyes should be. That he has eves is just an assumption, as those who have been on the wrong end of the laser like beams that erupt forth in battle. He is unknown, a nonentity in a world where everyone is identified by the micro chip implants. Some say he was part of an experment by the government to create the ultimate warrior that escaped and dissapeared into the underworld only to emerge as the warrior RADE. But again, no one knows for sure as no one knows him or has seen him without the exoskeleton, no one alive.........

Sonja is the perfect complement to Ruby.
Age: 31
Height: 6’ 2”

Specialties: linguist, heavy weapons, rock climbing, and hammers

Back story:
In her previous life she was a model from Norway. She was tall with long blonde hair, and a great tan. She graduated from the University of Oslo with dual degrees in linguistics and physics. Her favorite pastime was mountain climbing. Since her family did not have a lot of money she got into modeling to help support them. She was an instant success. Between her good looks and bright mind she figured out how to make the most of her abilities.

About a year after her modeling career took off she was made an offer to go on a special photo shoot in Brazil. The photo shoot was to involve a hand picked model from each nation in the world. It was to be a huge event. This was an excellent opportunity for Sonja and she agreed to go. Once she arrived in Rio de Janeiro (with her agent) things took a turn for the worse. Her agent was assassinated and she was kidnapped. The photo shoot was a setup! An evil tycoon wanted her as a mistress and threatened to kill her beloved family if she ever tried to escape. She was being held in a military-like compound in the mountains with no outside access.

After three years of captivity she managed to escape. The details are unclear but she had managed to make it down an almost sheer face of stone with no-one being the wiser. She managed to make it to the Norwegian consulate and through the consulate tried to warn her family. Once they validated who she was they gave her the grim news that her family had died in a tragic fire three years prior. Sonja went into a rage and never fully came out of it, even to this day.

She fled the consulate and planned to destroy the compound. With limited resources she managed to disguise herself and acquire some gear. It was a hopeless cause but she used her intelligence and rage to form a plan. She scaled the sheer mountain wall and sneaked back into the compound. At first the killing was difficult, but as she decimated each victim (with a claw hammer that she found) it became easier. This is the incident where she lost sight in her left eye due to a machete slash. She wears an eye patch, but you can see the scar from her forehead to her left cheek. Her captor, known only as “El Cabon,” was not in the compound. She waited for several days and then disappeared.

Her next few years were spent working as a mercenary in seedy parts of the world. She built a reputation as being both ruthless and extremely intelligent. Her end goal is to somehow find El Cabon and avenge her family.

She was turned from the depths of hate and loathing when she was on a mission in central Africa. Her orders were to lead a team and destroy a village that was supposed to be occupied by an opposition force. When her team arrived they discovered a village full of poor and hungry people, not the ruthless group that was supposed to be there. There was inner conflict between Sonja and some of the other team members about what to do. After a butt-stroke to the back of her head, the village was destroyed. She was left broken in the middle of nowhere.

Today she works mainly as an independent contractor, helping people in need and honing her skills for the eventual confrontation with El Cabon. She has a deep-rooted passion to destroy evil.

She was selected to help Ruby because of her intelligence, will to survice, and determination. She is effective at infiltrating locations that are environmentally unfriendly and not easily accessible. She is also effective at mission planning.

The alley where Ruby found herself was cloaked in shadow, which was probably a good thing because she couldn't see the filth in which she sat bleeding.

One of those damned goons had gotten off a lucky shot to her leg and, while not life threatening, the pain was an issue, as was the blood trail she was leaving was like a path to her location if the two idiots following her had any brains. She was out of ammo and needed to evade and escape. While she had successfully evaded, for the moment, she knew she needed to rest and stop the bleeding from her wound, escape was by no means ensured. Though she had passed many places to hide as she attempted to evade her hunters something had drawn her to this place.

It seemed like the best place to rest and hide for a few minutes, the alley entrance was defensible, the problem is there were two hunters and one throwing knife and she was hurt. Ruby proceeded to bandage her wound and try to devise a plan when...

From the darkness a soft low growl emanated, not menacing just well powerful and present. As her heartbeat began to increase she frantically looked around. The shadows were dark and darker with only a small spot of light in front of her and she couldn't place the direction of the sound. She felt as though her mind was distracted and her senses were confused (maybe blood loss?), this wasn't looking, or sounding, very good.

Suddenly she heard the growl again but it sounded like it was coming from all directions at the same time and her confusion increased tenfold. The sound however sounded oddly comforting, until...

Suddenly, like the snap of a pencil breaking, her mind instantly cleared and she could hear the sound directly in front of her coming from an especially dark pool of shadows, just past the small pool of light the moon cast in front of her. She snapped her head around and saw the blink of two glowing eyes seeming to float in the darkness. The eyes were the deepest blood color of her "agent" namesake and seemed endless. Then, into the dim light walked a large panther the color of midnight. The strength and grace of this animal was magnificent and, for the first time, Ruby felt helpless fear settle into her heart. She reached for the single throwing knife in her boot realizing as she did that her chance of even slowing this beast down were slim to nothing, and even if she succeeded she would lose her only weapon with two hunters hot on her trail, then it happened, the cat sat down and...

A slight pressure, as gentle as a puff of wind, right between her eyes and a great feeling of peace and clarity suddenly filled her mind. She saw herself through the great cat's eyes and HIS eyes gazing back at her and she heard the soft and low voice that sang of hidden power whisper to her "My name is The Night, and fear not for we are bound". her senses were boosted to new heights and that's when she heard...

The hunters had found her, suddenly she was back in "her mind" and reaching for her knife, how to take out two? The first goon saw her and raised his weapon, in a flash she was ready to throw then a soft voice in her mind said "trust". The goon aimed directly for a head shot then a look of, more than normal confusion, crossed his face. As the second hunter closed in for the kill the first turned and shot him between the eyes, one down. Ruby realized now that Night was doing this and "trust" was just what she would do.

The first hunter was fighting the control and turned his weapon to Ruby when a midnight flash came from nowhere and disemboweled him where he stood. As the cat gracefully walked back to Ruby she, once again, heard the soft voice in her mind say "trust, for we are bound". Ruby's thoughts now were "how do we work salary?

Points:

Look: Large Black Panther with deep red eyes, muscular and "ripped"

Special Powers: Mind "bound" with Ruby (think "Beastmaster"). Has the ability to mind control and confuse enemies perceptions and thoughts as well as extend Ruby's senses. Also I wouldn't want to face a large cat as an enemy!

Missions: Many missions, especially jungle, forest, and urban missions.

Pros:

- People love animals
- Nicely augments Ruby without challenging her character.

Cons:

- I may just be an idiot

Barry is a pretty dumb guy.. not an annoying dumb but more like a Homer Simpson or Chris from Family Guy. Barry has gotten by in life due to his boy band looking face and awesome body. He is addicted to working out and reading celebrity gossip magazines. At first Ruby despised be paired with such a dope - but after months of working together she grew a soft spot in her heart for someone with such a simplistic view on life who didn’t let the hassle and bustle of being a super spy stress them out. Barry has acting skills that are only rivaled by that of a porn star. In fact because of his at times moronic behavior the evil doers have completely ignored him as a threat to their master plans. Barry’s dream is to get a part on the soap opera "As The World Turns" as the water delivery guy. But for now he is content on honing his skills working with Ruby.

tl;dr, so i don't know if someone has suggested this:

dude's name should be 'emerald' (or some exotic variant thereof) and wear something green (for some reason, i keep picturing a knight in green armor, even though that's kind of lame and predictable). here are several reasons why:

-green is the color most associated with amd, ati's other half.
-both rubies and emeralds are doped aluminum crystals, so they are a natural match. also, aluminum is used for heatsinks by both amd and ati.
-i had another reason, but i can't remember it now

EDIT: after watching the videos, i now have a *slightly* better idea for 'emerald:' dude should be a fighter pilot tricked out in tacticool flight gear. he should fly an aqua colored, super sonic jet remiscent of an f16 or raptor (or the japanese-american f-2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Jasdf_f2.jpg ); something that looks nimble, aggressive and fast. why aqua? because i think it looks cool and this is all in the realm of fantasy :p

the character fits in with the standard fps crowd and with flight sims, both of which are genres that can be quite demanding of pcs. there can be some brand association here if the character looks iconic enough.

-the flight helmet would also mask the fact that the character's hair isn't going to be animated :p


for the sake of avoiding controversy, dude should NOT be a pirate, no matter how tempting it would be to pit him against a ninja (ps: ninja always wins -but usually gets his balls burned off by the pirate's fire breath. also may have a peg leg stuck in his ass and a hook stuck in his skull. and a cannonball in his ribs. ...such are the perils of being a master of the dark arts).


PS: i loved answering this question! i hope future contests are in the same vein as this one :p

I think most people will go with the James bond or laura Croft type. I think the character could be more like the Maxwell Smart variety. This type of character would alow for unlimited story lines. He could stay as a bumbling idiot or impove as the story developes or anywhere inbetween. As for what this character would look like, it all depends on where the creators want to take him...stays an idiot or get better with age.
If the character is to stay a bumbling idiot, then anything goes...James Bond chisled type or Shreks mini-me. If the character is to improve with age...then I think you would need to go with the more traditional James bond type fellow....a wardrobe change along the way would help with the transformation. He could start of being rescued by ruby...then doing everything in his power to mess up the rescue in a cute "I'm an idiot sort of way". In the begining he could be dressed prison/tattered/old clothing. Later Ruby could drag his bumbling sorry but out of his problem and he could change into new clothing and develope into a worthy sidekick or equal.
If the character is to stay more the bumbling idiot type...then anything goes. as for powers he would need the basic ninja type stuff, you would just need to figure out if he is going to turn into James Bond or stay more like the fellow from "The Pink Panther"...no I can't spell his name.
As for a name....bumbling idiot would be Quartz, and the improving character would be Carbon (with time and enough preasure it will be a diamond...no I didn't forget the heat part)
