That's how my last WD drive died. Just slightly after warranty like two months. :( I had about 30Gb of data for a big project that got lost. :cry:

For some reason WD drives just die without any early warning. I've now switched over to Seagate. BUT, years back the story was the other way around. Nobody would touch a Seagate in the 386/486 era. Now, it seems, WD is to be avoided. Especially the WD drives that carry the limited 1 year warranty.

These days, 50 CD-R's go for $10. I can afford the time it takes to burn.

So sad to hear about your WD drive. :|

I read half of the thread then wondered just how recent all this had happened, then noticed it was 2006. lol.
