I have a problem that appeared one month ago. I have LG GSA-H1l2 DVD drive and all data discs keep spinning in the drive even if no application load data on them. Spinning won't stop until computer suspends. This happens only in Windows XP, not Linux. Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

I honestly can not tell you whats going on someone else can help you there I think. Has to be a program error of somekind. Does it spin like high RPM? Mine did this till I restarted it. EVERYTIME I put a cd in and tried to burn it. If I left it alone it would be fine

Try uninstalling the drive from device manager and then rebooting. (it will reinstall automatically after restart, as the driver is a generic M$ one)

Yes, RPM sounds high.

Tested, but without difference.

Sometimes. This happens mostly without MP:s.

Well I would suggest to try updating the firmware of the drive, but I can't find anywhere that would have an updated firmware available to flash.

select country and region, then select dvd-rom drives

On mine (north america, USA) on page 2 there is a program called - LG Auto Firmware Download - Version 4 - only works on newer drives (2006+) it seems, but it could be worth a look.

Also - is that model number correct? I cant find ANYTHING on that model number anywhere

One day I decided to check if any background application affects to my DVD-drive and runned Microsoft Process Monitor. I found "E:" entries produced by DLLML.exe, which is Creative's DLL-loader for sound card drivers. After disabling that, DVD:s and CD:s will stop spinning automatically. This problem seems to be solved. I just hope that disabling DLLML.exe won't do no harm or launch automatically after disabling it. In December I had to get back to older sound card drivers, because newer ones made a side effect to some audio. DLLML.exe was activated that time my problem appeared.

Thanks for help.

I use a program called filemon.exe:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96642.aspx

It's a little program that monitors every single thing that goes on with your hard drive. I notice on mine I have AVG antivirus, once a minute it chimes in, so does explorer.exe, and media player since I have media sharing active. It's only reading, so my hard drive doesn't make any noise.

Run it and see if there's anything else going on. I'm not sure you can stop everything from running on XP or Vista, but it does help to know if anything major is running.
