Sata II with ATA100?

I have 2 hard drives, a 250 gb SataII Seagate Barracuda with 16mb cache and a WD Caviar 120 gb ATA100 w/8 mb cache. When both are hooked in my machine it says that the seagate is operating in ATA100 mode. Does this affect performance at all? My computer seems to boot faster with only the seagate hooked up. Unless I'm just imagining things? :(

I don't think it should downgrade your performance, since you still got 100 Mb/s and my raid 0 system with two WD500 got a burst speed of about 130 Mb/s, so one drive should definetly be under 100 Mb/s.

My seagate gets a burst speed about 90mb. So I guess it should be fine then. Thanks man! 8)

What tool are you using to read your hd's Mb transfer?

A utility called HD tune. Its freeware so you can google it.

Does rpm speeds on the hard drive make a difference on the HD Tune benchmarks? Because I have a sata150 WD 10K RPM 74GB and a 2x Raptor sata150s RAID 0 and I got some pretty nice burst speeds. Both were around 120MB. I'm just wondering because if you have a sata2 drive, I'd figured the MB transfer would be much better.

Yes, I would assume the rpm speed would matter in a speed test.
