Toshiba THNS256GGBBAA 256 gb SSD

Post by slrosenfeld »

Has anyone heard of this SSD? It's in my new laptop (couldn't find out make and model before I ordered the laptop) and I'm trying to sort out how good it is. Here is the AS SSD Benchmark. Unfortunately, it couldn't complete the 4k 64 thrd component (could someone explain what that is BTW?)--it slowed down almost to a standstill--would have taken hours to finish, so I couldn't get a total score from the Benchmark. I'm looking for some help interpreting the results and possibly some input as to whether there are any steps to optimize performance. This is my 1st SSD and while I'm trying to educate myself, there's much I don't know. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Just got my new laptop: From Sony Style USA: core i7-820QM, 1920x1080 premium display, 8GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333, GeForce GT330M (1GB VRAM), Fresh Start, Blu Ray burner, keyboard backlight, standard battery, 256 GB (256GBx1) Solid State Drive (Toshiba THNS256GGBBAA). I'm trying to learn about this SSD.

Appears to be just a generic Toshiba drive. Do you know if your laptop has SATA I or II? Have you tried any other benchmarks?

Sata II. By generic do you mean nothing special, or that there are actually lots of these drives in use? How does a generic Toshiba SSD rate compared to other brands? It seems to have very fast sequential read/write speeds, but somewhat slow 4k speeds compared to other SSDs. I haven't run any other benchmarks. Which ones would you recommend?
