I have read everything all over the web, well ok, not everything, but it seems that one person says card a is slow, another says card a is fast. I am here to ask your opinion ;)

I KNOW all class 10 cards are not the same. I also know that the new uhs-i is the fastest you can get right now but it is REAL expensive in most cases.

I need a card that will be fast enough to handle no less than 720p 30fps video for the length of the card without stuttering or having buffering problems.

Any card will let you take pictures and even class 6 cards will do the continuous shooting pretty well. It is the video that causes problems it seems.

I have been looking at the Sandisk Extreme III 30mb/s cards and the Sandisk new UHS-I cards the Extreme Pro. I would like no less than a 16gb card and if you look any of those up you will see the price is over double for the uhs-i card.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't care the brand, it just seems the Sandisk cards are about the fastest and best priced around, especially in the 30mb/s range.

PLEASE remember, this is mainly for VIDEO. I don't care if it burst speeds 8000 pics a second (well ok, that would be really impossible), I just care if it will record RELIABLY for long periods of time in HD.

I have both the Sandisk Extreme III 30mb/s is a card you can't go wrong with. I looked at what I think was the prior version in 2009 and it rocked - http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1172/1/

I've used that card since then and it's been perfect. I also use Kingston cards and their cards are good too. Their class 6 card is under rated and their class 10 card is solid. If you want me to run some benchmarks on either of the Kingston SD cards let me know. I bought a bunch for CES 2011 before we all went.

hmmm - the benchmarks would not do a whole lot for me unless they would test over a 30-60 minute time span with just writing HD video directly to the card. Basically like putting a card in a dslr and setting it to record hd video until the card was full.

I am just worried that they will not be able to hold a sustained data rate for HD and with the high cost of some of these things, I want to make sure i dont screw up and get one that doesnt work properly ;)

I would love to see some benchmarks on the new uhs-i cards that are rated at 45mb/s. I also read Panasonic and Toshiba are releasing ones that are even faster than that!

Have you ever used your dslr for hd video for say 30 minutes at a time? Burst mode for pictures should be okay with a class 6 or sometimes a class 4 but hd video needs some massive sustainable speed.

Do the Kingston cards hold a candle to the Sandisk or is the Sandisk still the way to go?

I have a Sandisk Extreme III, because it was the best rated card available when I got it (I actually got ~24MB/s read, ~22MB/s write, but it is faster than all of the other Class10 cards I have so I considered it a win even though it was not near the rated 30MB/s)

If you really wanted speed you would get a camera that takes CompactFlash cards because the best CompactFlash cards are a lot faster than any SD card but only DSLR's take Compact Flash that I know of

I wanted to stay with sdcards since I have slots in my plasma, computer, laptop, etc for them ;)

I really wish i could find a definitive answer about the UHS-I and if the t3i will take advantage of the speed it supposedly has. If not, I will go with the Sandisk Extreme III at 30mb/s like you have.

Well I bought a ridata Class 10 for around $43 from meritline and it is slower than the PNY Optima Class 4 I have *sigh*

I should have gone with SanDisk but hated to pay almost $100 for a sdcard. Maybe they will run some sales or rebates soon for the nice uhs-i cards!

32gb. Still waiting for Sandisk to go on sale to pick up a nice high end card.

I paid $45 for my 8GB Sandisk Extreme III, with a Canon P+S I just got I can take like 15 photos per second

With the cards I have I can burst take photos in the highest jpg setting to about 17 then it slows down because the card cant keep up. I saw a video with the sandisk uhs-i card and the camera (in RAW I think) did 100 pictures before slowing down! Just SUPER expensive.

with a Canon PowerShot ELPH1000HS, each test done in 2 minutes flat:

Sandisk Extreme III 8GB Class10
in High Speed Burst Mode(3MP 1984x1488), it did 776 pictures
in regular mode (12MP 4000x3000) it did 125 pictures

with a PNY Optima 8GB Class4
In High Speed Burst (3MP 1984x1488) it did 778 pictures
in regular mode (12MP 4000x3000) it did 121 pictures
deleting the photos took significantly longer with this card than each of the Sandisk cards

with a Sandisk 4GB Class4 MicroSD card w/a Micro-full size SD adapter
In High Speed Burst (3MP 1984x1488) it did 764 pictures
in regular mode (12MP 4000x3000) it did 124 pictures
