Copied all my brother-in-laws files for backup to a 120GB NTFS drive, reinstalled windows on his main drive, went to get the data back and it cant even read the damn thing :( Windows says it isnt formatted, but it was, and it worked fine!!! we even checked the data to make sure it copied everything before we redid the main drive. I would use fdisk/mbr but I dont think that is for ntsc, and it doesnt come with windows of course. I REALLY need some expert advise on this one, and fast :( We lost EVERYTHING of his. Well unless I can get it back off this drive.

I have tried a usb enclosure, 3 different computers, main drive, slave drive, etc. with no improvement. I am trying to run a recovery program now - cant remember the name, but it was a free one I found online.

It is a Western Digital 1200JB if that matters - 8mb cache 7200rpm.

PLEASE HELP

Mike

Follow-up

Program was called PC Inspector File Recovery

Would not even read the drive, gave sector/lba errors and then a division by zero and locked up - nice recovery - lol

Well I am about to try and format it and see if I can recover anything after that - if I can find a way to recover or redo the mbr I might do that first.

Help is still wanted and appreciated!!!

Found a file - Active@ File Recovery for Windows - http://www.file-recovery.net - and it seems to be the only program that can actually read the drive so far- 86% done scanning, but it has not found many files :( I hope it at least finds a couple of the REAL important ones.

Still looking for other advise!!!! I am always open for new alternatives to try!

Isnt there a simple program to do like a fdisk/mbr for NTFS discs? Dunno if that is the only problem or not, but since everythign can see the drive and just not read from it, or thinks it is unformatted, tat would be my guess.
