Wow, thats painful and sadistic. I'm hoping all the hard drives were dead before they did that. In any event, yeah Maxtor has had some criticial quality control issues, but I hope that those are solved by the merger with Seagate. Either that or I'm going to have to abandon Seagate as well. Great find by the way.

I worked briefly for a HD company. In one case, they were having a huge problem with returns from an OEM. They went to investigate and found out the OEM's computer cases were 'tight', so they were using rubber mallets to jam the harddrives in.

They estimated 95% of the problems come from shipping and handling. Since then, I handle drives like a case of nitro.

That is shocking how little people care about other peoples hardware!

I have two Maxtor Diamond Fireball 7200 60GB in Raid0 and they run without a problem! The pc is now 6 years old, and its been on for at least half that time... (i leave it on day and night most weeks).

Pretty happy with them, but I guess they were the top range maxtor drives back then.

I hate when these kind of mergers occur... less options and competition :( Anyone remember Quantum? :D

I've been out of the PC circle for a bit now, what HDD options do we have these days? Seagate, WD?
