Dell question

Post by Merlin »

Can I take a WD hard drive out of an home made AMD system and plug it into ( OS and all files included) a Dell that has a bad HDD....the PC was thrown away whole and as far as I can tell so far only has a bad HDD.

yes, you may have trouble with getting some drivers but XP or Linux will pick up most if not all, mainly the video drivers for the on board video.

I would back up the important stuff first though, just to be safe.

Oh and wait for all the new stuff to be recognised and installed before messing around - you will probably have to reboot also :)

May have to actually boot into safe mode and remove video drivers or such. Altho sometimes you can get lucky and it work without safe mode.
