so is there a problem with a computer being in my basement when it gets really cold down there? when its not running? because it took about 6 restarts for it to load the HD. I'm assuming that it is just too cold and the fluid is more viscous than normal. Care to tell me or is the clicking noise it is making also a problem. Its my agp bench I can easily swap out on, because my bro has the better hardware I gave him. lol.

Either way I think the hd just died on me its western digital, old p4 2.0 ghz and the comp gave me a memory dump error and now won't recognize boot device, granted its about 32 F in the basement, but I can't get it to boot up, I guess i'll have to do something with it in the future or use my athlon xp comp of my bros to do some benching.

Have you tried it in a warmer room? Yeah there are usually minimum operating temperatures for hardware like that, if it had of been off for along time, its possible that it could have frozen?

It has been off for a couple of days so yes I guess there is that possibility. lol I don't have room for it or use it enough to have it in my room, but i'll check it out. I was wondering though.

as i posted earlier I said 32F so that'd be 0 Celcius, its winter and its not livable space, just a walk in crawlspace/storage area that we lan in usually.
possibly slightly warmer though it could have gotten colder during our time we had single digit temps outside.

I think it should be fine. Most hard drive manufacturers list the minimum operating temperature at 0 Celcius.

I'd worry more about moisture then the storage tempature, but it would have been best to bring in into a warmer area and let it sit for a few hours before trying to start it up.
It might be damaged, but I'd give a day to equalize and try again
