This may not be the place to ask this so sorry if its not. I just recieved my new drive from new egg and its an OEM so I was wondering IF the maxtor MaxBlast 3 software would be OK to use to transfer all the data to the new drive as well as to format it ? I was also wondering how I can set up this new drive with 2 seperate partitions for a dual boot scenario later. Initially I would use 1 as the boot partition the second as a backup. but later I wanted to test out the 64 bit windows OS on the second partition.

When you install windows on it you can format it at ther same time and create partitions.

Why not use your old drive to test the 64bit windows on?

I just dont get partitioning the same drive into parts, if the drive fails - it all fails..lol.

now the copy thing - you will have to hook both up in the computer after you install windows on the new drive, then just file copy the stuff you need to save back over.

Hard drive copies that included recopying the whole OS and everything - like a ghost image - are OK, but I found that most times you will have things that will not work properly. I think it is better to re-install everything and just file copy your data back over.

I was hoping to avoid all that work. Not to mention that I allways seem to have trouble finding all the stuff I need. If for example I have a document that I saved from Printshop that I don't expressly remember I forget to transfer it. I may not forget anything but my own fear of forgetting results in my not wanting to ever erase the old drive.
