I have a friend whos getting ready to build a new computer and he's raised a question I really dont know the answer too!
He's considering the 780 or 790 platform so 3-way SLI is a concern, his plan is to buy one 8800GTX now, one in a couple months and another in the future(probably a year or two)
So his question is this.....We know that you need to use the same GPU type card but can you use diffrent clocked cards? Say a BFG 8800GTX OC now, maybe another in a couple months and then in a year or two if the BFG GTX OC is hard to find can he use another brand and different clocked card?
Really need an answer soon, there's a sale on the BFG 8800GTX OC with a rebate but it expires at the end of the month.
He's a bit of a procrastinator so he needs time to think about it.

Re: SLI Question
Yes, they can have different clocks as long as the cores are the same. Just make sure to use updated drivers.

Re: SLI Question
So if you have a G92 core 8800gt you could SLI that with a new G92 core 8800GTS?

Re: SLI Question
I'm not so sure that it would work as the core is slightly different (less/more stream processors).vicaphit wrote:So if you have a G92 core 8800gt you could SLI that with a new G92 core 8800GTS?
Maybe if Nate is reading and has time to just throw them on a rig to see if they work? ;)
