GTX260 On Low Res

Post by bhelms »

I am going to be buying/building a new comp next week. Probably going to go with the E8500, 4gb DDR1066, and a GTX260 and other various parts, just putting the main ones. I do play older games sometimes and i hear that they are not very SLI friendly so I don't really ever intend on going to SLI because of that and its just more hassle imo, I like to buy parts and leave it for a while. Also, I like to keep my parts for a long time.

I am currently using an AMD 3800+ X2, 7950gt, and 1gb ddr675.
I have had this computer for about 2 years now, not a single thing changed.

My question is, is the GTX260 too much for 1280x1024? That is the max res of my LCD. I have heard some people say it is and some say it just means I'll always have high FPS in games. So what's your opinion? I intend on keeping this card for a very long time. I want to buy for the future, as well as now. So it could be overkill now, but maybe not in a year or so. Future Proofing :) (Might even get a new/better monitor, but probably not anytime soon)

I intend on getting into some of the latest/high-end(graphics wise) games as soon as I get the new system.

Thanks for any replies and if you have any other questions on how I will be using it or any other specs of the system, that would help you answer the question, please ask.

:)

IMO no it's not too much, more importantly I'd tell you to get a better monitor. A game and graphics card can only look as good as your monitor.

I am going to have to agree. Up until a few months ago I was still using a CRT monitor with 1280x1024 res max. The difference between CRT and LCD was night and day for me.

If you have the money to go with a gtx260 you might as well do it now, and not have to upgrade down the line. There will always be more demanding games in the future, you might as well futureproof.
