HDMI for GeForce 9800 GTX+

Post by cpd123 »

I was looking to buy a 9800 GTX + graphics card for my computer and use HDMI to hook it up to an HDTV. I saw this site - http://www.legitreviews.com/article/731/3/ . It says that you need to attach a SPDIF connector from the motherboard to the graphics card, along with a dvi/hdmi adapter. The specific card I am looking at does not ship with a SPDIF connector and I can't find any on the Internet. Does anyone know where I can purchase one of these?

Which card have you gone for? Maybe they implemented it so that you dont need the spdif connector.

I've looked around a few retailers and most of them say a spdif cable is included in the box. Do you know for a fact that the one you are getting is different to this and wont come with one?

I would imagine any of those video cards that can do HDMI would come with that lil thing..especially GTX models...i got one when I got my card..(GTX280) but i would think one is included even on that model you're looking at..that's based on what i know btw..i haven't gone reading up on things lately

I know you want to get this feature working, but it might be worth while hanging on just a little bit till you have the card and box in your hands.
Odds are that it'll come with it and newegg just didn't list it.

i would wait and see also...but might I advise that if you're gonna spend that much for a black edition you might as well get a gtx260....my 280 came with a spdif cable..so i would think a 260 should too...they're anywhere from $199(asus brand) up to a lil over $300 from newegg and other places depending on which one you get..look for ones that come with a hdmi adapter..like said..my gtx280 came with one and I would think a 260 would too(can't confirm it)..i still also think those 9800 gtx should have them too but can't tell..either way, wait and see on that 9800 or maybe give a gtx260 a shot since its in the price range and is better..regardless its a wait and see thing

EDIT:...go look at newegg.. and use the search and look for card with hdmi adapters on the 9800 gtx+..i found 9 that look like they have the cable...I know you said a black edition but for a 50 mhz difference on the core..you wont notice anything different

Thanks for all the info guys, especially InspectahAce on the Gtx 260 prices. I now have an MSI GTX 260 ordered from newegg with all the proper cables and attachments.

Thanks.

right on..i think you will like it better too..not sure what power supply you have, just a friendly reminder to make sure you have enough power to properly run it( amps also ) or you'll run into the same issue i had when i installed the 280 and needed a new power supply..it worked great when i had the 8800 gtx going but said bye when the 280 said hi(didnt die though)..shouldn't need as much as mine did but it will need some juice..not sure if the 260's come with a small light on the back of the card to let one know if there's an issue with power or not so heads up..

I think I should have plenty of power, I ordered a OCZ stealthxstream 600 watt PSU, and it has four 12 volt rails, each rail with 18 amps on it
