Re: best ghx card for gaming @1080p
What is the budget you are working with?
Re: best ghx card for gaming @1080p
do you need DX 11? If you answered yes, only ATI cards on the market have that right now. Look into HD 5850 and 5870 depending how much money you have.
Re: best ghx card for gaming @1080p
my budget would be between $100-$200Apoptosis wrote:What is the budget you are working with?
dx11 would be optional, unless l4d2 is a dx11 game....DeusEx wrote:do you need DX 11? If you answered yes, only ATI cards on the market have that right now. Look into HD 5850 and 5870 depending how much money you have.

Re: best ghx card for gaming @1080p
I just purchased a ATI 5770 card about $180 on newegg.. should be just what your looking for. I also upgraded a 9800GTX on my HTPC with a ATI 5750 and it runs games smooth on my 55" HDTV that card is under $150.. both cards support DX11 and one of my cards came with Dirt2 game.
have you played the L4D2 demo? I wasnt very impressed with it

Re: best ghx card for gaming @1080p
Are you comfortable with overclocking?
The 5770 has one extra SIMD unit or 80 more stream processors. It will be a better performing graphics card, but it really depends on what size monitor you are running to determine if you how much horse power you really need. You can save some money and overclock the Radeon HD 5750 to perform like the Radeon HD 5770, but it still has 80 less stream processors as I showed in this review = http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1105/1/
Even with 8x AA and all the game settings cranked up to high the Radeon HD 5750 and 5770 never average less than 33 FPS on games like HAWX. You can see that the average framerate is 10FPS higher at 12x10 or 6FPS higher at 19x12 on the Radeon HD 5770 though. It goes to show you that those 80 stream processors can impact performance by ~20%.
