Athlon 2600(2.01GHZ)
512 (2 x 256)

The problem I'm having is the overheating....I can't leave it running for long (7 hours+) or the proc cuts out. But I can live with this, its about time I bought a more coolage.

The main problem I have is video files not playing. Be it mpeg or whatever.

In game movies run fine, but playing video files on the net or even on a player cause my system to lock up.

Also, my ctrl-alt-del doesn't work anymore....as in, it doesn't bring up the task manager.

Sounds like you might be in need of a fresh install of windows and an aftermarket GPU cooling solution! Although the Geforce 6200's I have really don't generate that much heat. You sure the video card is over heating? Is it in a small case with no fans?

I think your problem is mainly with your OS from the sounds of the little i know.

As Apoptosis said, looks like your OS....

Could be hardware.. But best/only way to be sure is eliminate software by reinstalling, after that, if it's the same you can be sure it's heat or something...

I doubt it's heat as you can run for ~7hrs, heat usually builds up quicker than that!!!

Well, strangly the processor cut out about 2 minutes after installation of card. But that doesnt seem to be a problem anymore.

Like I said, I can't play videos, dvd, on the net anything with out my processor maxing out and stalling the pc..

Do you have to install plugins or codecs or something everytime you put a new graphics card in?

What you might want to try is un-installing the video card through device manager (the card will be under display adapters) and then "cleaning" your system.

I use Driver Cleaner Professional 1.2, which can be downloaded from here. Driver Cleaner will remove parts of drivers that are left after uninstalling the old drivers. Just by chance this could be your problem. Once you complete this task install the nVidia 78.03 drivers and give it a try again.

Other than that make sure you have the most recent media player that you are using and maybe try downloading new codecs. I use the professional ad free ones from DIVX.

I've formatted the hd. reinstalled xp.

All drivers are up to date.

Apart from this the card runs fine. Bloody annoying.

time to RMA the card then if you've done all that and it still fails to work. Might be a core or PCB problem! You should not be having all these issues with a new generation video card.

Well, I got it sorted.

The video card was running in PCI mode. My previous card, a gf4mx 440 ran in PCI mode too, but it actually worked fine for some reason.

So, a possible fix would be to make sure you are using AGP.(if thats the right type you have)

You can easily check (now that you know the difference ;) ) in display properties,settings, advanced then click your adapter tab, then look for what tyoe of bus is being used, either pci or agp.

Ok, I am having the same problem. I have a setting of PCI as well instead of AGP. How did you change that? I looked in my bios and it says AGP. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling windows and the drivers several times. I can't seem to change that no matter what i do though.

If it's set to AGP in the BIOS you wouldn't want to change that would you?

Also what are your symptoms???
Have you changed/upgraded any parts recently?
