I plan to use Vista when it comes out next year and I'm getting a 20" widescreen LCD from NEC soon which is also HDCP-compliant. Obviously, I will want my vidcard to be HDCP as well.
I read somewhere the Asus EN7900GTX 512MB vidcard will soon be shipped featuring HDCP-compliance on-board. Funny thing is, they will be using the exact same model name so does anyone know how I can tell which box will be the updated version? I'm asking cuz I'll soon be buying one (probably from online retailer) for my upcoming Core2Duo rig and I doubt most stores will identify which box they are selling since the name will be identical (i think).

well here was how my beta went.
" la-la-la good for 3 weeks. one day i turn it off. and when it boots back up vista loads in, and thats it. open my computer i see 1 hard drive when i have 2 installed. Open up the case check all the connections, and they were in. So i say "eh, its a beta" boot it back in, still one hard drive, so i go to retrieve my data the the harddrive that does show up freezes. SO I ended up installing a 3rd hard drive loading XP to it to retrieve my files."
im not gonna use vista til Q4 2007 or begining 2008.
Well I do know the Asus EN7950GX2 is HDCP ready, but very few (if any) other cards can say the same. For some odd reason, even tho the vidcardcos knew about the detail Vista/blu-ray designs a year ago, they opted not to release HDCP ready cards until now. So for those unlucky ones who paid $800 or whatever for their top-end vidcard claiming to be 'Vista Ready', only those who buy the EXACT SAME CARD today (as in the Asus en7900GTX) will actually get a true Vista/HDCP ready card ....nice...
I suppose it's all academic to me anyway since I'll trade in the 7900GTX next winter for 2 of the new DX10 cards.......darn things cost more than the computer it seems...
