Overclocking my 7900gs XT

Post by SepheronX »

alright, so I am currently overclocking my XFX 7900gs XT. Right now, using ATI tool, I get it to at least 591/820, and at idle (of course reverts back to normal clocks for 2d mode) is 40 degrees (using a Zalman CU 700 cooler on medium speed) and when I am running BF2, It is around 55 - 57 degrees.

But ATI tool starts to show artifacts at 600 core, does that mean its my limit? or is it just because its ATI tool, and I should use Rivatuner?

I am also thinking of just picking up some conductive ink at lordco for 10 bucks, and volt modding my card. How does that sound?

I just hope I am not forced soon to sell the card in order to play games that are coming (like Alan Wake, or Quake Wars).

Thanks!

PS, if you are wondering why im not in a rush to get the DX10 based cards, its because this card isn't old, and I kinda want to have it last a good while.

so back onto overclocking, I was able to get it to 591/900. Although, I am wondering, ATI tool never picked up artifacts in 8min test, temp went up to 62 degrees.

Although, when watching the scan, there was a blinking yellow dot on the side of the cube (not on the cube, but side of it) and ATI tool never picked that up as an artifact (although, it will when the yellow dots appear on the cube, which happen at 600 core) I am wondering if thats safe or not?
