GeForce FX Go5200 Driver

Post by Confuqua »

Here is your amusement for the day.

I am newbie trying to keep an old computer with a GeForce FX Go5200 going for as long as possible.

The installed driver is indicated as nv4_disp.dll Version 6.14.0010.6742 (English) dated 10/26/2004.

I have downloaded ForceWare Release 162 Version 162.18 WHQL dated July 26, 2007, but have not been able to install it.

Can anyone confirm that there is a more up to date driver than what I have and, if so, how to acquire and install it?

Thanks in advance

It is indeed the latest driver and should , assuming you are running Windows 2000/XP. I you're system uses Windows 9x you want those.

Is the driver you're currently running buggy? If not, it's not like that's a high-end card and drivers are holding it's performance back. A driver dated from 2004 for a FX card sounds about right I think.

a Go card is a laptop card. Normal nvidia drivers won't work, and even if they did I doubt they still support an old 5200 card. Check here to see if you can find a driver that works http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers

Thanks for the responses.

Maybe it would have been helpful to include a few details.

The OS is XP Pro SP2. The existing card and driver have worked, and are working fine.

The problem is that a new game that I loaded will not work. It is Scrabble Complete, by Encore. The literature says it is compatible with Windows XP. I contacted them and, after providing the detailed information they requested, was advised that I need to update the driver.

The release notes for ForceWare 162 say that it will support the GeForce FX 5200, but there is no mention of the FX Go5200. If I understand your comments, the Go5200 is for laptops only (I have a laptop). Since it is not on the supported list as such, I guess it is not included in this driver update.

Getting the game to work is only important in that my 90 year old mother would use it as one of her mind exercises if I could make it available.

The LAST thing I want to do (in fact, never) is screw anything up while attempting to get this game working.

Any ideas?

no you didn't understand, what I said well in its entirety. Mobile Video Card Drivers are supported by the vendor of the laptop. The site I listed modifies desktop drivers to work with laptops. That is the only place I know that supports laptop drivers other than your laptop Vendor.
