NVIDIA GeForce 8800GS 384MB and 768MB Pictures and Details

Post by Apoptosis »

Looks like NVIDIA couldn't hold the news of the 8800GS tight before CES and the cat is now out of the bag. All sorts of leaks on this card this afternoon and evening. With 96 stream processors it's nothing that is going to compete with 8800GT series, but it will cost less. There will be a GeForce 8800GS with 384MB and another with 768MB. The memory interface is 192-bit, which is also smaller than the 256-bit bus found on the 8800GT series.

This 384MB 8800GS is the card we received today. We will receive 768MB version soon. All these cards we’ve seem is products by Palit. but later eVGA, XFX, and ASUS will also have 8800GS products.

The core on the GeForce 8800GS 384MB is said to be clocked at 575/1700MHz, which is slightly lower than the 8800GT as it is 600/1800MHz. The GeForce 8800GS 768MB edition is said to have an astonishing clock frequency of 650/1900MHz. Notice the core is stamped G92

This picture shows the other core - G92-150. This means both the G8800GS-768GD3 and G8800GS-384GD3 use the same core.

Yet more models? This is rather ridiculous how many variations of the same card Nvidia is putting out. I thought the next card was supposed to be their 9800 series? Its like they are trying to confuse people on purpose with all these variations... some even have the same name.

These cards pictured here are quite ugly in my opinion anyways.

I would guess because of how big the monitors have been getting. I have a 22" widescreen now and know a LOT of people on 24" and even bigger lcd tvs and plasmas that could benefit a bit from the extra memory ;)

benchmarks, benchmarks, benchmarks - me and the bots want to put them to the test dammit.
