Maximum acceptable temps on 8800GTS 512?

Post by mr_noname111 »

So I got this card about a week ago, and I have been playing games fine since. But yesterday, I started to play Crysis again, and after 2-3 minutes, I got a driver error and the game shut down. So I just restarted computer (thats the first thing I do whenever there is a problem ;)) and played again. This time, after 5 minutes or so, the screen went all purple and pink then the game shut down. I was monitoring temps then, and the highest it went was 81*C, which I think shouldn't be too high for this card.

What are the acceptable temps on this card? To anyone else who has this card, how hot does your card get?

thanks

read the topic wrong lol, thought you were talking about OCing, well i think over 80C is too high, try turning your fan speed up, with headphones on I cant even hear my system even on 100% fan speed so who cares :P

I have the Asus GTS 512 and after 15 minutes of artifact scanning with atitool I get temperatures of around 85 degrees C.

That's with stockcooling and using all stock settings.

With Crysis it hasn't reached 80 degrees yet, but I haven't done exhaustive testing so far.

Just out of curiosity, what settings are you running crysis on?

81oC as high as it is, is perfectly within spec for this card. GPU's are rated to just over 100oC which is ridiculously high if you ask me.

With it being a new card install, I think the drivers from your last card are still floating around in your system and causing a conflict.

You should uninstall your card, boot into safe mode, then run driver cleaner pro. Reboot your machine then install the drivers for your card again.

This should fix the problems you are seeing.

81 is not too bad for that card. Does it happen with other games? if it does then it could be hardware related issue. PSU maybe undre powering the card.

If only in crysis, maybe it's game specific.

The fan drivers don't seem to work well on these. Use Rivatuner to correct it. I have a post on here about it somewhere.

This problem only happened in Crysis. I changed the fan settings so that the highest temp is around 75*C, and since then there has been no issues.

I'm actually surprised at this result, as you guys said, 81 shouldnt be too hot for this card

Oh well, lets see how it goes from now on.
