anyone else get the idea ATI is going to go out of business soon ?

i actually don't, they still have probably the best "bang for the buck" graphics cards, and they have a fair portion of the market right now, probably more of the casual gamers such as myself own an ATI card, but it would be great if ATI and NVID just merged, ATI has the great ideas, and they adopt new ideas much faster than NVID (55nm, GGDR4, CrossfireX, etc), but nvidia has actually managed to make well performing cards.

No, not in the least. Don't forget AMD got started by offering near performance CPUs at lower prices than Intel. Just because some company loses the performance crown doesn't mean they immediately lose the war... I won't comment on the debt they've accrued though, that is another story altogether.

High end products don't really matter. The money is in the low-mid end segment and ATI is very competitive at that level!
