Need help with 8800gtx + 680i + vista 64

Post by smokin_mitch »

lately I have been having trouble with my monitor not turning on at start-up?
the computer loads up but the monitor has no signal? I have to reset several times until it finally works!
Its a brand new 24" Acer lcd, I have checked the cables and it works on my other pc just fine so its not the problem. I think its a driver issue? but i'm not too sure

my 8800gtx is using the 158.24 drivers for vista 64

I flashed my 680i motherboard bios to the latest version P30, and installed the new v15.01 680i drivers, and still my monitor doesnt get a signal on start-up and when it does it sometimes comes on after the post screen(i dont see the post screen)

Is any1 having similar problems and/or know how to fix the issue? I hope its just a driver issue and I hope Nvidia get their act together and get some fully working drivers soon

it has to be a driver issue with the monitor or something cause I have a 680i, 8800 and Vista 64 with no problems, but I'm running a pair Samsung monitors...

Hmm i got that problem months ago due to nvidia drivers it seems that when Windows (Vista or XP) run chkdsk on startup, the monitor stay blank with no signal until the chkdsk test is one (it could take several minutes to do so), maybe that's is your problem?
i don't know if nvidia fixed it but i think it has coz i don't have this problem anymore..

if it is not the case, it is more likely a driver issue with your monitor like Apoptosis said
Good luck

ok i installed the 163.11 drivers and so far no problems (havent done any real heavy gaming yet), although i had problems installing the drivers, it tells you on the nvidia website to just uninstall ntune before installing these drivers and i did that but i didnt remove the old driver 162.22 and so when i installed the 163.11 driver my computer seemed to freeze up and contunually reboot, so i reset it and it loaded up ok and i checked in the nvidia control panel and it says driver 163.11 is installed so i guessed it worked?

I will have to try all my games to see if theres any improvements, mainly in bf2 and 2142 and there random crashes to desktop and occasional BSOD ](*,)

My bother's rig has very similar problem (680i/8800GTX) both in XP x64 and Vista x64 on a Gateway 21" .. Driver change was of no help and have yet to narrow down/find the cause . The problem is pretty random so it not that big a deal , but it is annoying .
