8800GTX vs. 8800GTX Superclocked

Which is more worth my money? I see the superclocked version from eVGA is $50 more than the regular version. Is it worth my money?

I'm building a new system and am looking for good components, and I'm planning on trading up my 8800 GTX for a "9800 GTX" when they come out. $50 does mean a lot to me, but if I'll get an extra 20FPS on my games running at high resolutions, then why not? :P

All of my games are going to be played at 1920x1080 or 1280x720.

hey Nails,

I would say just buy the stock card and overclock yourself. with the GTX you wont really need to overclock anyway -IMO

have you thought about just going with 2 8800gt in SLI? you might get better performance for less $$

Sup Smack. I'd rather go with a single 8800 GTX or the better just because I'm going to be upgrading to the 9x00 series card when they come out. I haven't seen any reviews from my digging around that compared the 8800 GTX to an SLI setup of the 8800 GT's. My guess is it wouldn't be as good and would consume more power.

What I can't believe, is how much the 8800 Ultra kicks the 8800 GTX in the butt!

my XFX 8800 GTX would actually overclock higher than the XXX (factory overclocked version) tested here on LR.

Overclocking aside the superclocked editions are typically not worth the extra performance...you definitely wont see a very big difference in newer games like Crysis and Bioshock (maybe 1-3 fps is my guess)

This is correct, its not that many fps that differs.
SLI is also starting to get good now with more and more games supporting it.
Should be seriously considered

One thing to watch out for when you're considering SLI is power consumption requirements. Don't just plug in an extra card unless you've checked that your power supply can handle the added load. The benefit of single cards is that they usually consume less power than two separate cards.

Also, don't bother with pre-overclocked cards unless the price differential is very small because you won't really notice a huge difference. That extra $50 could go towards more RAM, a nicer CPU upgrade down the road, or many other things.

I don't think I ever saw this reply, but yeah, I got a job working for AT&T in Milwaukee. I'm much close to you guys now! :P

As far as the card, I just went with the superclocked version for the hell of it. It wasn't much more and the overclocked versions (namely the Ultra) do pretty well in comparison to a regular GTX.

I live in downtown Milwaukee! :P I honestly have no idea where much is yet.

I want to go visit Tom, but this weather + me being sick doesn't help. I'm not brining a nasty cold to his house... he's got 2 small children! :-D

Jump on vent sometime!

i will as soon as i put my computer back to its home.. I got a new 55' TV and have been playing COD4 and BF2142 on it just to try it out. all my mic and crap are down by my monitor. i have been running the sound thru the surround sound. - if i decide to keep the computer by the TV i am going to have to get some wireless crap.
