HardOCP has posted up details on the GeForce 9800 GX2 this morning!
NVIDIA's yet-to-be released GeForce 9800 GX2 in the "flesh." We reveal some of the specs and what should be expected.

The best way to think of the GeForce 9800 GX2 card is as an 8800 GPU that has been die shrunk to 65nm and placed in an SLI configuration in a "single" card. The 9800 GX2 is very reminiscent of 7950 GX2 of days past. (And we loved the 7950 GX2 at launch, but terrible support and diminishing returns soon painted it as one of NVIDIA’s biggest failures since the 5800 series.)

The GeForce 9800 GX2 will launch in late February or early March as it now stands and will replace the 8800 Ultra (single GPU) card in NVIDIA's high-end product line up. The 9800 GX2 is said to be at least 30% faster than a 8800 Ultra. While it is not clear from the pictures below, we are told it will support "Quad SLI."

GeForce 9800 GX2

1. 1GB Frame Buffer
2. Two PCBs
3. Two 65nm GPUs Total
4. 256 Stream Processors Total

All of the information here comes from sources overseas that we consider trustworthy. Obviously there are some specifications that could be a bit more clear, especially on the memory bus. We would expect to see two 768MB frame buffers per GPU here, but that is not what is spelled out. We are guessing 512MB per GPU currently.

Toms Hardware now has better pictures...
We know that the 9800GX2 has 2 printed circuit boards (PCBs), as did the 7950GX2 in its time, two graphics processing units (GPUs) using 65 nm nodes (most likely G92s with 128 stream processors), 1 GB of memory (512 MB for each GPU) and two DVI outputs.

$10,000 LOL

Yeah, it's ugly but may not be the "finished product"

I'm not sure if I like where Nvidia is headed with this card replacing the ultra. The ultra is extremely overpriced for a single card so at least there is SOME justification of a high price for this since you're basically getting 2 slower clocked 8800 GTS 512MB, however the fact remains just like with the 7950GX2 that this is still going to rely on SLI working correctly in every game you want to play to ensure that you get what you paid for.
At launch the 7950GX2 was not recommended by LR but once the prices came down it was highly recommended for anyone that didn't own an SLI motherboard. That is likely the same recommendation this card would get.

if it has two gpus, and nvidia is coming out with 3 way sli, would that make it "6 way sli" not quad sli? sounds like total bs too me. and even if it isn't bs i cant even begin to imagine how much heat this thing will put out. probably a good investment because you wouldn't have to heat your computer room in the winter

Its a two slot card, so they are spaced normal, well sorta normal, they aren't on just one card, so your not getting 4 connections

most of us do at this point, ATI has had a dry spell in the high-end range, so, maybe nVidia will finally stumble with this one [-o<

Isn't this just 8800GT SLI on 'a' card?

Hence the lack of 6 way sli etc.

and why the hell does it have a optical spdif port? i thought this was a frigin video board not a soundcard :| onboard hdmi is nice though, so you wont need a dongle. not that there that expensive on newegg, but it sucks to wait for a week when you finally realize you forgot to buy one, and you refuse to pay outrageous amounts at bestbuy
