Based on the fact that it is essentially 8800GT SLI on a card, and 2 8800GT's cost just over $500, I would have though it makes sense for nvidia to release it at most $600.
My bet is that it goes for $549.

After rethinking about it , I'm pretty sure nVidia will have to go down with the price, especially with the recent release of the HD3870X2 which is being sold now for $449.
So...As the HD3870X2 competes (more or less) with the 8800Ultra. Then, nVidia just can't sell they top-notch card (9800GX2) for ~$300 more than the 8800Ultra/HD3870X2, as people just won't buy it if they'll have to pay extra $300 just to get a bit more performance boost, so I'm pretty sure they'll have to sell it for a price, which is only a bit higher than the 8800Ultra/HD3870X2 prices.
So, I also think that your assumption is right and hopefully they'll sell the 9800GX2 for around $600-$650 . But even then, it'll still be VERY EXPENSIVE to afford...At least for me...

Ok, I can see from the various pictures that one is a standard 6-pin pci-ex power connecter, but whats with the second connector that is 8-pin ?
Re: NVIDIA GeForce 9800GX2 Video Card Pics w/ the Cooler Removed
right now i have about 80 days on my step and credit of 299, so im leaning toward a 8800gts 512mb for 60 bux more, or taking the 8800gt for free.. i figure just go with the gts, but i think if someone showed me a retail box of each card and said u can have this for free, or this for $60 i might go free... hehe, tough call i guess... ill prolly go with the gts jus cuz its faster ..
however now with the 9800gx2 in the picture for the future, if it comes out in march it'll be within my stepup time, and if it comes out at the reported $449, thats $150 for me, or if it comes out at $399 to match the 3870 x2 thats a bonus for me.. I figure the $150 is definitely worth the upgrade then since its like going to 2 8800gt's in sli at least from what is being said..
anyway i may just go fer the gts, or wait and see what happens in march...
